I love the guy, I do, but this year Matthew deserved it.

Leo was the same in both Great Gatsby and that Martin atrocity.

But what an year for Matthew Mcconaughey. Oscar, Golden globe. And then I am pretty much sure he is gonna be one of the most strongest contender for Emmy's this year for his performance in True Detective and then he is also in Nolan's next film Interstellar. 👏

Normally I don't like Matthew McConaughey, but this year he did deliver a superior performance. Leo got edged by someone slightly better.

He is revered as a great performer and he will get his Oscar due someday for sure.

Hillary Swank won the Oscar both times she was nominated while Meryl Streep has 3 out of 15 or 20 nominations.

Martin Scorcese the director of movies like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, GoodFellas has one Oscar win that too after decades of nominations. Al Pacino, Paul Newman are also examples of people who did consistent good work over decades and had to wait for their Oscars.

Winning an Oscar is supposed to be recognition of talent, but the truth is there are more forgotten Oscar winners who have brief careers than there are people who have long careers and do consistent good work and yet wait their turn for whatever reason be it luck of the draw, politics, subject matter, favoritism, race, genre.

In the end though people will remember and love the name and movies of a DiCaprio, Scorcese, Pacino or a Newman more than people who won an Oscars and had shorter careers because Oscar just recognizes the best performance of a year, it is not the yardstick for talent or longevity. The body of work of the actor or director is what decides that, not Oscar.
