The film has already recovered its cost by now and is holding pretty steady at the BO!
Even everyone I know who saw Highway loved it! I just don't get why the critics were so harsh on the film?😕

I read somewhere that budget was only 8 crores. And producer Sajid Nadiadwala kept asking Imtiaz why aren't you spending money. I don't know if its true or not. But it must be on the lower side.

8 Crores sounds very low...even if you paid peanuts to Hood and Bhatt, still...the locations travelled, the shooting costs etc, couldn't have been this low! But then again, if you look at the film, you realize that there are no jazzy costumes, no background dancers, no huge action scenes etc...the budget might very well have been less than 10 Crores. Quite possible! Its just that I read somewhere that the budget of Highway was more or less similar to Hasee Toh Phasee, hence I wrote 20 Crores.
@Kruti, it will surely recover its costs...I think its already done that. It might very well make some money too, depending on how well or not well SKSE is recieved. Whatever money Highway had to make was this week, the screen count will go down drastically from tomorrow!

Highway is holding very well in weekdays on lower end at box office. Although film started slowly on Friday it is heading for a decent first week number. Film has managed to collect around 1.8 crore nett on Wednesday. Film registered again a minimal drop in business on 6th day. Thus, Highway total collection after 6 days is approx 19.65 crore nett.

Highway should collect over 21 crore nett in the first week, which is a decent number considering film limited release and face value. With Maha Shivratri Holiday all over India, collections should see a boost on Thursday.

Collection Breakup -

Friday: 3.35 crore nett.
Saturday: 4.55 crore nett.
Sunday: 5.75 crore nett.
Monday: 2.25 crore nett.
Tuesday: 1.95 crore nett.
Wednesday: 1.8 crore nett (est).

Total: 19.65 crore nett (Approx).

Watched it last night! Story was amazing! Though the middle part got a bit boring but that silence it what brought out Veera! Not a fan of Alia, but honestly she has improved tremendously!!! Am super super impressed by her! She was just amazing throughout the whole movie! It was worth a watch!

Okay, just came out after watching this.

First reactions- Cinematography is very, very good. Picturesque locations, probably the strongest point of the film IMO.

Rahman's music is fabulous.

Alia is good in parts and so is Randeep. However the script looks a bit airy at times and the acting therefore doesn't convince you.

1.) Some of Veera's wacky parts- for example when she hid herself at the checkpost and her reactions afterwords looked forced and contrived.

2.) The transition from a scared kidnapped girl to a carefree girl on an adventure seems rushed, and IMO not very believable. Unless the director was aiming to show us a bit of a "screw dheela" , wacky girl whose mind could turn very quickly. Hint of Geet in Veera's character.

Practically nothing shown of the girl's family after she's been kidnapped. They make an appearance only at the end.

Angsty, but realistic ending. This could have been far much more.

I'd probably give this 2.5/5, could round it to 3. Felt the second half was slightly better than the first. Certain dialogues are good.

Not exactly a romantic movie, more of a road trip of two strangers who have suffered similar scarred childhoods and therefore bond together.

This won't be Imtiaz's biggest hit. A bunch of small joys in the movie, but it doesn't quite cut it as a whole

i just watched it. the above review i agree with.

Alia is best when she acts herself, a breezy girl young girl. which is
what they showed in promos.

other parts, she has tried but is nowhere mother india nargis that javed
akhtar raved about. her dialogue delivery was kinda not quite good
especially in the monologue at end.

the relationship between two whatever there was of it was too patchily
created, didnt quite convince. even given an abductee can fall for
abductor, they were too different. you wonder what on earth theyd
have ended up talking about had they married.

the movie was best in the first half. after that it sort of lost its
grip. end was wishy washy.

I just watched Highway...I cried! I rarely ever cry over movies, this movie was just heartbreaking!

First before I start... Randeep Hooda.. STAND THE HELL UP AND TAKE A BOW!!!!! 👏 👏 👏
Brilliant, just BRILLIANT he was. His character had more depth and in my opinion overshadowed Veera. I do think the transition was a bit too quick as well from a kidnapped terrified girl to chirpy happy Veera,, but I loved how they shared a brother/sis relationship, even though at some parts Veera was giving Mahabir seductive looks 😆. I think overall Randeep left a bigger mark on me, the scene where he breaks down, my god I broke down as well 😭 .
The music, and seeing different sights of India was just breathtaking!

What pissed me off was Veeras family..your daughter just got kidnapped, instead of asking how she is? What she experienced? What they can do for her? Whether therapy or a family meeting needs to be arranged to discuss further options? NOTHING. They do NOTHING. That was sick! 🤢 also, the mother trying to hold Veera back when exposing the uncle...how could she, as a WOMAN bring Veera down and shut her up instead of standing by her side? Even her fathers reaction..just all sick. Alia Bhatt did a great job as it is her 2nd film however I felt she was very inconsistent with her performance, especially in the emotional scenes. However shes still new so hats off and super good job Alia! And Randeep...you KILLED IT. He was so powerful in every scene, I expect to see much much more of him! I give it a 3.5/5 👏 ⭐️ 😳

Three scenes that stood out the most to me...
- Mahabirs break down scene
- Alia confronting her family
- Alia SCREAMING at the top of her lungs to her uncle, that scene was very very powerful. It symbolised all those years of her being told to be quiet, to remain in pain..she finally showed him that shes no longer a victim. 👏

Great job Imtiaz! 😊

Loved loved loved this movie!!!!!

I've become crazy about Mahabir and Veera.. two people with completely different background yet their chemistry was awesome..

Alia - what an improvement from SOTY to Highway!!! She was superb considering this is only her second film...

Randeep - I have no words. Outstanding, brilliant performance. I don't think anyone else could have played Mahabir with such conviction. He nailed it in every scene. Hats off to him!!!

The music is awesome as well. Loved patakha guddi and maahi ve...

Thanks to Imtiaz Ali for making this excellent movie..after a really long time I have enjoyed a movie so much!!!!
