Star kids are on razor's edge'
After Andaaz and Ek Rishta: Bond of Love, filmmaker Suneel Darshan has returned to helm a film that will mark his son Shiv Darshan's Bollywood debut. Karle Pyar Karle has been touted as a romcom and Shiv is confident that it will showcase the skills he honed attending acting classes in New York.
"I am from a film family, so filmi talk was always a part of my life. Even as a child, I wanted to join the film industry," Shiv tells us. Surprisingly, however, being an actor was not part of Shiv's plan. "Dad was shooting for Talaash: The Hunt Begins in 2003 with Kareena Kapoor and Akshay Kumar and one day, Akshay couldn't make it to the set as he was unwell. So dad called me to the sets to stand in for Akshay in one shot. That's when I realised how much fun it is to be an actor," he says.
Shiv describes the process of working on his debut film as "crazy fun" and an "adrenaline rush". Ask Shiv if there's more pressure on star kids to prove themselves and he agrees. "There are lots of expectations. It is easy for a star kid to get a break but we are always on the edge of a razor. The pressure to perform is killing," he rues.
But if there's one thing he's learnt from his parents, it's that in Bollywood, patience is a definite virtue. "I truly believe in that," Shiv says.
