Salman Khan: Contradiction at its best!

If you are reading this and haven't watched or are not interested in watching Bigg Boss 7, I'd like to tell you with very strong conviction that Bigg Boss is indeed a microcosm of our society and reveals many things which we brush aside as scripted but are actually harsh realities of our life and our mentality. In this entire season of Bigg Boss, the show's host - Salman Khan's behaviour and treatment towards the contestants has been so differential and so skewed that it almost reminds you of SO MANY ASPECTS of what's wrong with our country.

Let's analyse some of the peculiar things that Salman Khan has done throughout this 7th season of Bigg Boss which makes us wonder whether some of the things he does are the very discrepancies in our system that Indians battle with on a regular basis.

Out of touch with the masses and Proud of it just like our National leadership?

Hero-worship of Salman Khan's filmy persona by fans has made him so blind to realities that he believes his charisma will fool people into believing whatever he says. Forget about introspecting why #UnfairSalman is trending almost every Saturday, here's someone who denies those people (the ones trending against him) even exist and has created his own delusional version of India who supports some people and does not support others! More than anything else, he dishes out moral values and popular feelings, which are unfounded.

Here's a host for whom Farida aunty and Karan Johar's mom's opinions represent the pulse of India since Salman has mentioned them while adding that they had assured him that what he did was right (in relation to Salman Khan scolding Kushal for how he behaved with Tanisha, that point in the show at which PANDORA'S BOX was opened). However, Salman Khan managed to skip the HASHTAG #UNFAIR SALMAN? Yes Hiroo Ji and Farida Ji are also a part of peoples' voice and no thinking individual would underestimate their voice, but as a host you can't cite examples of people close to you and then say that INDIA FEELS THIS WAY. None of us can turn around and say that me, my mummy, daddy and Pinky aunty feel you are wrong and THEREFORE India thinks you are wrong.

Salman Khan also seems so confident about his millions of fans that he doesn't think twice before giving a straight message to the public! The day starts with Salman Khan dancing on JUST CHILL chill..just chill' - a song from a Salman Khan starrer movie Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya. He was then seen telling the audiences looking straight into the screen ...

Errr... Alright Salman Sir. If you insist we will chill. But is this another indirect message that you're sending across to us when we don't agree with how you behave as a host and give you a genuine critique just like you claim to give a genuine critique to the housemates of the show you judge... oops sorry.. I mean the show you host.

Salman Khan was then seen adding, rather cautiously, that he asked the audiences to just chill just chill' because his very chilled out brother Sohail Khan is coming to Bigg Boss to promote his movie - Jai Ho which stars Salman Khan himself. Are you serious? Why should we chill if your chilled out brother is coming to the show?

Anyway out came on stage Sohail Khan, who seems to have lost a lot of weight and looked in great shape. Now Sohail came to promote his film Jai Ho that stars Salman Khan. Throughout the time Sohail was there, he looked awkward, out of place and thoroughly embarrassed because Salman Khan was FULL ON taking Ajaz and Kushal's class. And Salman Khan had only just started in front of him.

The funniest part was that Salman claimed he did not know Armaan at all and the first thing Sohail did on seeing Armaan was say :

What's ironic is that when it comes to his films he's like the Aam aadmi party member going Jai Ho' (the common man philosophy is a recipe for blockbuster success both in politics and Bollywood after all!) while in reality he's as out of touch with the masses as the government right now.

The biggest irony in this entire episode was that the film Jai Ho's punch line gives the biggest lesson Salman Khan has to perhaps learn:

(The common man is a sleeping Tiger.. Don't finger {irritate} him.. If he wakes up.. he'll RIP YOU APART)

As irresponsible as some sections of our media?

As somebody who reports' things happening outside to the housemates, he represents the Indian Media and EVERYTHING that is wrong with it - From misreporting the Pulse of the public to the housemates, to questioning and bringing to light issues selectively to serve his own personal interests, to resorting to sensationalism, he's done it all. Did I just say Sensationalism? Yes, remember how he tried to make a love triangle out of Kushal-Gauhar-Ajaz weeks ago by egging AJaz's antics on ? Ofcourse it was all in the light' vein, UNTIL last night when he turned on AJaz and scolded him for saying he has a soft corner for Gauhar. First he eggs an entertaining housemate on in humor and then assassinates his character.

If anyone was moved to tears today, it was Ajaz Khan. Ajaz was clearly seen from the first day sucking up to Salman Khan trying to impress him and getting him to like him. But forget liking, Salman instead seems to be taking out some personal khunnas (vendetta) from him.

1.Salman Khan accuses Ajaz of gossiping (like other contestants in the house didn't do it) and therefore it would be a problem to cast him in a film. Salman Khan first seemed to indirectly tell everyone to stay in his good books because he had cast Sana Khan and Santosh Shukla (ex-contestants of Bigg Boss from last season) in his movie Jai Ho. He then added that hopefully he will take the current housemates in his next film and before he could finish, Armaan Kohli and Ajaz Khan were seen raising their hands to hint that they wanted to be a part of that movie.

Salman immediately pounced on the opportunity to tell Ajaz it would be a problem to cast him because he would gossip about everyone on the sets. He said you would tell the director what the producer said, the director what the actor said and so on and so forth. Salman Khan thus implied that if Ajaz would be cast in a film, he would destroy the peace of the movie sets i.e of the cast and crew.

2.Salman Khan told Ajaz he has no personality. When Ajaz showed his desire to be cast in Salman Khan's next film, Salman replied that they would feel like they've casted Saif Ali Khan or Sanjay Dutt. Salman Khan said: TUMHARI KHUD KI PERSONALITY MARR RAHI HAI AUR TUM THODE ZANANA BANN RAHE HO - Your own personality is dying and you are becoming a little like a woman.

Firstly Salman Khan should realize that he is the one who blows the trumpet of "respecting women" and at the same time tries to demean a man by saying he is becoming a little like a woman. Is a woman despicable that you try to embarrass or make fun of a man that you say he is acting like a woman?

3. Salman Khan tells Ajaz that he goes and tells everything to Mummy. Salman got personal here as he was calling Gauhar, Ajaz's Mummy. What Salman said was that whatever happens with Ajaz, he has to go and tell MUMMY (Gauhar) about it. And till last weekend he was scolding people for using words like "budhaa" or old or general name-calling.

Targetting Ajaz is not a first for Salman. He's questioned the truth of everything other contestants say (think Gauhar). Infact he's gone to the extent of suggesting he knows the real intent behind what she is saying while not only letting those he's close to get away with murder but defending them proactively. The worst thing is he's brushed issues under the carpet when it comes to Armaan's abusive behavior towards women. He targeted Ajaz, Kushal and Gauhar this week while not even bringing up Sangram holding Gauhar's wrist with uncalled for force.

When he speaks to Kushal he seems more like his Bullying Senior in school. Why else would he constantly make personal remarks like all of this would one day make you a man? Even if a powerful' nobody calls you a puppet, it's for your own good only! You must swallow everything and anything Salman or some random guy utters against you because it is for your own good UNLESS Salman proves it otherwise. He reminds one of a bully turned teacher (yep unfortunately there are many in our Education system!) who just wants you to nod your head and keep your mouth shut when the Saturday class is on. Only those who bow their heads in allegiance, pledge unflinching obedience and suck up to him are spared (think Sangram).

Yesterday was no different and we were shown Kushal Tandon's GRILLING. Salman Khan told Kushal that Sachin Joshi told him the audiences feelings. Salman questioned whether how Kushal reacted to what Sachin Joshi had said (calling him a puppet) was correct or incorrect.

Kushal replied that whenever he fights and Gauhar tells him to stop, it's only for his betterment. Kushal said that he loved Gauhar and listened to her out of love and knew she wants his benefit and if that is considered being a puppet or being controlled then it's alright.

Salman told him if he thought that Sachin was wrong in calling him a puppet, he should've told Sachin not to call him that instead of calling him DEDH FUTIYA (or short) behind his back. Kushal replied that Sachin had also insulted him and called him a puppet !

OK so the next time someone insults you Salman Sir, have it in your heart that they are only correcting you.

We then saw Salman Khan making fun of Kushal who had told Gauhar that his father sends 3 lakh messages to people in Lucknow to vote for his son. This by the way is coming from the same man who says "DHOOM MACHALE" after every episode to "promote" his friend Aamir Khan's film and here he is making fun of a father supporting his son? Didn't Salman Khan's brother just come to the show to PROMOTE his film too?

Salman Khan was later seen telling the housemates that they should all surrender and give up because no way could they win if Kushal's father was ensuring he gets so many votes. He added there was no chance that anyone else could win if it remains this way. Later Salman Khan was also seen urging the audience to vote for other contestants in the house.

Kushal was then seen telling Salman Khan IN SO MANY WORDS that come what way, Salman finds a way to pick at him and finds ways to criticize him. Kushal asked Salman Khan that if Salman tells him, he will become a chicken or MURGA (which is a form of punishment in villages and schools).

Salman was seen replying to this by telling him that this very grilling will make him a man and that he will look back at his life and call himself an idiot because Salman himself thinks he himself was an idiot when he looks back at his own life. Salman added that he may have made mistakes in his past but he never repeats his mistakes.

As Unaccountable, Irresponsible and Apathetic as our Bureaucracy?

Almost every Saturday, history repeats itself and still Salman Khan doesn't learn just like our bureaucracy which goes on making the same mistakes year after year. Assigning overestimated figures for making public infrastructure like roads and fly over's? Assigning tenders to companies who do poor quality work with poor quality materials (think of buildings falling randomly all over our country)? Assigning illegal lands to big builders and then crying foul and sealing those lands when the public has settled into it? There must be umpteen examples running through your head right now. Just like the bureaucracy seems to be leading life in a bubble protected by a LAAL BATTI, Salman Khan seems to be leading a life in a bubble with his crores and fame protecting him. He has little regard for the sentiments of the viewers as well as the contestants who look visibly moved, sometimes to tears and sometimes into absolute silence, examples of which we will show you in our next point.

Also, one needs to point that he seems to not feel responsible to the show-makers! Why else would he damage the credibility of the show with his biased behaviour? He claims to be the sole authority in the know of what's happening on the outside in front of the housemates and abuses this self-bestowed title to make them tow his line.

Forget Meritocracy, here's to the Dynasty

From the blatant manner in which he supports housemates with a filmy lineage (We are talking Nepotism people, think Tanisha and Armaan!) to the rude dismissive way in which he talks to the self-made Ajaz, it's obvious that he's someone who worships the clan. He's gone to the extent of mocking Ajaz by telling him sarcastically he would have lots of film offers waiting for him when he comes out while going ga-ga over what a powerful man Sachin Joshi is and what a great family Tanisha belongs to. Statements like Kajol would not even recognize you(Ajaz) if you came to the show BACK TO BACK for 3 seasons only reveals that he respects only those who are powerful or famous.

In this episode, Salman Khan informed the housemates that his brother Sohail Khan wanted to come inside the house and release the Jai Ho Trailer there but he thought it was better to stay outside because a guest, Sachin Joshi who had just recently come to the house to promote his film - Jackpot had been insulted by Ajaz and Kushal.

Salman Khan added that Sachin Joshi is a very nice man AND A VERY POWERFUL MAN.

Salman Khan was seen taking Ajaz's class over this issue telling him that it was Sachin Joshi's personal opinion that he said that Ajaz and Kushal were controlled by Gauhar and that he had said it for their benefit. Ajaz was seen saying that he was not controlled by anyone. However Salman Khan didn't allow him to speak and said KISI NE KISI KO BHI BHADKAYA NAHI HAI (nobody instigated no one) meaning that neither did Nihar Pandya (Gauhar's ex-boyfriend) instigate Sachin to say something to Gauhar, Kushal and Ajaz and neither did Bigg Boss tell Sachin to say that Gauhar controlled Ajaz and Kushal and that they were puppets in Gauhar's hands.

Salman Khan was then heard praising Nihar Pandya as a thorough gentleman. CONGRATULATIONS Nihar. You got all the publicity WITHOUT being a part of Bigg Boss, which is aired on national tv and watched by millions.

However, Ajaz was seen not taking the accusations made on him sitting down. He answered everything Salman told him logically. Poor Sohail was seen going from uncomfortable to awkward. He constantly kept looking down and gave an occasional sympathetic look to Ajaz.

Ajaz was seen telling Salman Khan he is not controlled by anyone. He said he was a one man show and self-made.

He added that if he respects someone or disrespects someone, fights with someone or doesn't fight with someone, "they" have a problem with everything. The "they" he repeated in these sentences was clearly pointing to the Bigg Boss makers.

He expressed his confusion and his disheartenment at what the Bigg Boss show was really looking for from him.

Ajaz replied that he just wants to leave the house and does not want to win the 50 lakhs either because he wants to save whatever little respect Allah (God) had blessed him with and he doesn't want to ruin that respect by being on this show. Obviously the constant reprimanding of Salman was leading to a general sort of anxiety and was making the targeted contestants feel under confident, insulted and humiliated.

Salman Khan was again seen asking Ajaz in a mocking way as to whether he wanted to be an actor and asked him to be CLEAR CUT. When Ajaz agreed and said he does want to be an actor, Salman Khan told him that he should consider who was he irking or displeasing before he says he wants to be an actor. Salman Khan was OBVIOUSLY referring to himself who in the past has been reported to have wrecked peoples' careers though it all remains to be conjecture. He also added that he is taking a PANGA or problem with Sachin Joshi who he a few moments ago called VERY POWERFUL ! Yes Yes we know he is Goa Gutka baron Jagdish Joshi's son who had been questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly helping gangster Dawood Ibrahim to build a Gutka Plant in Karachi along with owner of Manikchand Group.

Salman further questioned that Ajaz should've stopped Kushal from speaking badly about Nihar and Sachin. Ajaz replied that Kushal is a mature man and knows what to do and he doesn't need to tell him any such thing. He added I am not running any classes here!! Touche Ajaz !

The most sound words came from Sohail Khan who was so positive and so heartfelt that you wonder what went wrong with Salman Khan. Wasn't Salman Khan known to be a large-hearted, soft-hearted and generous man who was so innocent and gullible that people used him to their advantage? Why is he emerging as such a mean being ALL OF A SUDDEN!!! Is he playing "some version" of hell !?

Regressive outlook - Authoritarian to the point of being almost Feudal?

Earlier in the episode, Salman Khan was heard making a rather strange and obscure remark about Kamya.He had asked Kamya how could she sit for so many hours in such a small box and then he goes: OH of course.. your husband is small.

Errr OK Mr. Khan how do you mean that? Do you mean that Kamya's husband is short or of a small built? Or do you mean he is small-minded? Or do you mean her husband's personality is small and claustrophobic and therefore Kamya could stay in the box for so long since she has lived with a man who made her feel the same way?

So Mr.Khan how well do you know Kamya's husband? And then you question people about how well they know others to make comments on them. Didn't he reprimand Ajaz just last week for speaking to Kajol through the camera (Ajaz had told Kajol to teach Tanisha something) and that Kajol doesn't know him at all for Ajaz to give advice to her and now he dishes out personal judgements about people he barely knows.

This is exactly the kind of mind-set New-Age India is battling against. How many times have you seen him not getting the last word in? Forget that, how many times have you seen him letting others finish their sentences. Contestants either dread opening their mouths to defend themselves or feel so helpless and disappointed with the host, they simply shut up. This has happened on separate occasions with Pratyusha, Kushal, Gauhar and last night with Ajaz. He's brought contestants to the brink of tears many times.

The fact that he twists and turns conversations and cuts them short only reveals that he's hyper-defensive about his image (a fact that he himself confessed to in a way on koffee with Karan when he said he's constantly worried about what others will think of him). Perhaps it is this obsession with maintaining his larger than life self-image that has made him intolerant of any criticism (even if it's constructive). Perhaps, he seems to have surrounded himself with a clique of Yes' men (and kind grandmotherly aunties) who nod in agreement to everything he says?

Anyways towards the fag end of the episode, Salman again went back to grilling Ajaz and asked him why did he not vote for Sangram despite promising him that he will. He made fun of the line that Ajaz had said that he will write it in blood when it comes to voting Sangram as captain. When Ajaz tried to defend himself and say that he had also told Kamya he would stand in support of her at all times, Salman was heard asking him sarcastically as to how many people he would stand in support for.

What's hilarious is that Salman Khan questioned Ajaz that how many people will he stand in support for whereas till now he himself has been standing in support of Tanisha and Armaan! In fact, in this very episode, Salman Khan asked people to vote for other contestants in the house and NOT JUST Kushal.

Salman then asked all the housemates who they thought would leave the house because of Ajaz. He said this line and started sniggering.

Ajaz was seen going completely quiet and insisting with a blood shot red face that they should change the format and chuck him out (even though he was safe).

Salman replied he is no one to chuck anyone out. Salman added a sarcastic remark and said that anyway there were 4-5 films that he had to work in waiting for him to come out since the film makers got dreams to cast him. Salman added sarcastically that since God was sending him crores of votes, he should give the money he wins from Bigg Boss to the person who gets chucked out today because of him (all the housemates were nominated because he discussed nominations). Ajaz agreed to giving away his prize money, hearing which Salman replied that he should not change his words later. Ajaz replied :

When Salman insisted that he tells him who he thinks will be evicted from the house today, Ajaz joined his hands and told Salman to please excuse him for today.

Of course Salman had to put in THE LAST WORD. He said Ajaz was wasting his time : "TIME KHOTI KAR RAHA HAI."

Nevertheless the show ended and Kamya was sent home !
