What? No effing way!! I kinda get the gist of the issue after reading a few comments so am proud that Sonu is standing up against the music company but still I wasn't really expecting him to retire. There is just no one like him. He is such a magical singer.

This is pathetic! Likes of Sonu are rare. Talented artistes should be treasured instead of treating them like shit!

I notice nowadays filmmakers take new singers with voices that sound similar to those of established singers like Sonu, Shreya and Kumar Sanu etc. and as listeners we also assume song must be sung by the original name we know. Not many of us check labels to see the actual singer's name.

Singers are already paid way too less. A paltry few lakhs even as it's their song that sometimes is responsible for collections a film gets.

Abusing them, replacing them, re-dubbing their songs by someone else, kicking them out and getting new people in name of freshness, denying them royalty, paying them too less, not even mentioning them at music release and promotions of a film etc. are really wrong and discriminatory practices!

Bollywood films are what they are due to music. But it's pathetic how musicians are treated. Already piracy makes huge dent in their business.

Be it in matters of awards or rights of singers, Sonu Nigam's been the most vocal one. I hope other singers also join and take a collective stand on issues that affect them.

If Sonu alone announces retirement and refuses to sing then it won't be enough.

He has to be a bit louder and more in your face the way Abhijeet is. Go all out on national television or prestigious music events and voice out your concern in strongest language without mincing words.

Actors, producers all have unions and guilds. High time musicians made a united front of their own to lay down norms on their rights.

There's no regulation in Indian film industry at all. It's all disorganised and whimsical.

He should try an album of his own. He is a great singer, undoubtedly the best in current time, and this is sad. I don't care whether he sings for his own album, or movies, i want to hear his songs. His retirement...no f**king way.

I think singers should take a stand in industry and side by side start launching their own albums like they used to in 90s. But then if music companies are the problem then same issues will be there in case of albums also. What should singers do? Start their own music companies too? Or independently launch their music online?

They should form a front and write to Government wings like Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, agitating for their rights, demanding legislation that protects their rights.

They should not retire. Keep doing TV shows and concerts, keep themselves in public eye and have public hooked to them lest they get used to new or duplicate voices.

Oh no! I always found Sonu to be a very gifted and pure singer who wasn't part of the trendy wave of rap-y type performers but it's easy to understand his frustration.
Film music has changed so much, heck BOLLYWOOD has changed radically in the past 6 years.
