Krrish 3 Weekend Hit By Pre-Diwali Period

The Krrish 3 weekend was hit by the Pre-Diwali dull period. The film grossed 34 crore nett in its first two days and Sunday will be down a bit as Diwali Puja hit business in North and Central markets by around 15-20% though Mumbai and South are better. The Sunday collections will be in the 14-15 crore nett region which gives the film a weekend of around 48-49 crore nett for its Hindi version. The Tamil and Telugu version grossed another 4.50 crore nett approx.



This is the first time that a big film like this has been released Pre-Diwali so there is nothing really to compare with so it will be the Monday and Tuesday business that will actually tell how good this weekend actually is or actually is it good?



The next two days will decide whether this near 50 crore nett number is huge or the film lost momentum with a pre-Diwali release despite the pre-release hype.

total collection according to BOI is 49 + 4.50 = 53.50 and according to Taran is 72 difference is more than 18 crore

As expected Krrish 3 has taken a historic start on Monday at box office. Film has opened to fabulous occupancy all over India. Almost all centers in India is recording 80-90% opening in Morning shows which is outstanding. Opening of the film is bigger than all the previous days of the film. From early trends Krrish 3 is heading for unimaginable number for the day. Monday record is going to be shattered by a big margin now. Even biggest single days mark are in danger.

Coming to occupancy Krrish 3 has opened to 90% occupancy in Delhi and Gurgaon in Morning shows. Mumbai has started on 85% occupancy which is again better than the previous days numbers. Kanpur has opened to 90% occupancy which is fantastic. Bangalore is also excellent with 80%+ occupancy is registered there. Hyderabad is little lower than previous days with occupancy for Morning shows is in the range of 55-60%.

With such start crossing the Friday box office numbers should be a cakewalk for the film. In fact 30+ crore nett for Monday is also on cards, which is never heard of. Unless there is major drop in collections in Evening and Night shows, there is absolute certainty that Krrish is heading for 30 crore nett or more range for the day. Even with little drop here and there film should easily touch 27-28 crore nett for the day. Its rejoice for all Krrish and Hrithik Roshan fans.

The pre-Diwali period is considered dull and lackluster for film business and this year too, the trend remains the same with the audience busy with festive preparations. During this period, it is the personal and familial responsibilities that take precedence, while the need to gratify their hunger for entertainment and films is pushed to the bottom. Despite this, Rakesh Roshan certainly took the brave decision of releasing KRRISH-3 on Friday [1 Nov] that falls well within the pre-Diwali phase, while, initially, he was looking at a Monday [4 Nov] release. So was this shift in the release date a wise decision? Well, despite the above-mentioned reasons, the film's business has turned out to be great. This just goes to prove the power of content!

The magnificent start of KRRISH-3 clearly proves that 'Superhero' films are here to stay, provided the marriage of content and technique is perfect. Films like TOOFAN [1989], AJOOBA [1991] and DRONA [2008] spelt doom for this genre. Not anymore. KRRISH-3 has emerged as a game changer, considering the fact that the film manages to address the kids and adults both. Positive reviews and a strong word of mouth have certainly helped the film further.

Adding to the massive hype around KRRISH-3, the digital promotions [handled by Hungama] played an equally important part in giving a massive boost to the overall promotions. The only sore point here has been the music, which, if outstanding, could have added around Rs. 10 cr to Rs. 15 cr extra to the overall BO kitty.

Now post the opening weekend figures, everyone is waiting with bated breath to see if KRRISH-3 can break the record of CHENNAI EXPRESS and YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, the two mega-hits of 2013, in the domestic arena. However, irrespective of the record, Hrithik as a Superhero is here to stay, while the Roshans have created a legacy that will last for years to come.
