#Krrish3: @Vivek_Oberoi - "My wife (Priyanka) was expecting when we were shooting. In the film Priyanka (Chopra) is expecting too and in a scene I had to behave very badly with her. That scene almost killed me! I am an emotional person and to be so cruel to a pregnant woman - even the thought is abhorrent to me! I told my wife about it and she said it's just a character but that scene almost broke me... When I signed the film we were not expecting... when you know we are having a baby the mindset changes...

#Krrish3 : @Vivek_Oberoi - Kaal by far has to be the beacon of darkness for me. He's fifty shades of black! Some scenes needed me to psyche myself into a state of mind where I would stare into a mirror, waiting for the flicker of evil to come alive in my eyes. I am a positive and happy guy in real life so to switch to a state of vengeance and anger was terribly tough! While shooting, I would isolate myself, switch off the lights in my van, be an inch away from the mirror and keep looking into my eyes, waiting for that flicker of evil. The moment it came I would go on the sets and perform. Only after the shot was okayed would I take a breath. It would take me hours to unwind. Being bad, saps you of your energy. I'd feel emotionally drained when I came home.

'Krrish 3' is 100 percent Indian: Vivek Oberoi
Vivek Oberoi
Vivek Oberoi is the face of evil in Krrish 3, the prince of darkness pitted against the superhero Hrithik Roshan. After a successful 'Grand Masti' and with this film releasing next week, the actor is in a very happy place. To know more, go to follo.co.in/popularcelebs on your mobile.

What are your expectations from Krrish 3?
The most important thing is that it's made in India and if you see the VFX and compare it to an international film, you can't tell the difference. It's all about who is driving it. It's Hrithik's aesthetic sense, Guddu Uncle's ( Rakesh Roshan) conviction and passion, and his master craft of being able to weave such a beautiful emotional story through a superhero space.

Tell us about the action you've done. The action is on a whole new level. I will tell you about one sequence. We shot the climax in Hyderabad, where Guddu uncle recreated all of Bandra Kurla Complex, a whole chunk of Mumbai, on a massive scale. It was a 26 day shoot in 46 degree heat. It was incredibly challenging as I was wearing a metal costume weighing 28 kg.

You've done romance, action, sci-fi, a period film and a slice-of-life film. Which genre are you most comfortable with? Doing anything slapstick or over-the-top comedy is out of my comfort zone. I am most at home with real stories where the characters are real.

What do awards mean to you? Awards are little milestones. When they are in your office cabinet looking nice and shiny they are gentle reminders of a body of work that you should be proud of.

How do you unwind? I am family-oriented. I love spending time with them as it's therapeutic. The minute I walk home I shrug off my work cloak and be in this amazing supportive, loving environment I thrive on. I love taking on the role of the son, brother, husband and father.

Your favourite holiday destination? Istanbul. It's such an incredible mix of cultures and has amazing old ties with India. Also I love Rumi... I love his poetry, the Sufi music you experience in Turkey.

Your favourite Suresh Oberoi film? My dad has done some amazing films. My favourite is Aitbaar. He was brilliant. I loved where he played a baddie in Shraddhanjali. Another powerful and dynamic performance was in Kaal Chakra. He got a National Award for was Mirch Masala. I loved his cameo in Tezaab.
What is the most romantic thing you have done for wife Priyanka? I'm a romantic at heart. I like to woo my wife. Now she is so used to it, she is kinda spoilt. She is always demanding the wooing now.

Has life changed since your son Vivaan's birth? It's just gotten more beautiful. When you have a child, he starts to redefine the meaning of life. The moment I held Vivaan in my hands, I had this overwhelming feeling that he is the centre of my universe. The first time he looked at me with his beady little eyes, I couldn't stop crying.

Any message for your Follo'ers? A big thank you, the warmest hug and much love. The most important thing about people who love you is they are the most forgiving. People have been so patient with me. I love them for that. I hope you love Krrish 3.

Hrithik Roshan in Bangalore, Oct. 7.

On The Front Row' this week, film critic Anupama Chopra talked to Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan about playing a superhero in India, how he and his director-producer father are still learning and why it's important he knows his own weaknesses.

Edited excerpts:

Anupama Chopra: Hrithik, what is the unique struggle of being an Indian superhero? Of course, we don't have the budgets or the technology that Hollywood does. But what are the other challenges? Is it also difficult because our superhero films have to be musicals?

Hrithik Roshan: There are innumerable challenges faced when we were starting off with "Krrish 3." First of all, he is a superhero who has to be Indian, so the film has to be shot in India. You can't have all the action indoors so you have to shoot outdoors. How do you shoot outdoors in India? It is just not possible because you can't control the crowds. Then came the budget restraints. So we had all those challenges. It was not a good business decision according to my Dad [producer, director and former Bollywood actor, Rakesh Roshan.] Cinema, for me, is more of a contribution. This is what we do to find little piece of immortality, I guess, in some way it's a responsibility. If we don't do it, then who will?

Anupama: I interviewed Henry Cavill for "Superman" and he said it's an incredible feeling to put the suit on. He said the suit holds an energy all of its own and people treated him differently when he wore it. What was it like that for you when you put the suit on?

Mr. Roshan: Absolutely. I was told by the doctors that I should not be doing this film. I should not be doing any action anymore in my life in fact because I had certain problems. But of course, I put myself back together and every single time I remember on the sets, if I had any kind of pain or any kind of issues, mental struggle or pressure; the moment I zipped up, things just changed. I felt unstoppable. I felt unbreakable.

Anupama: How has your working relationship with your father evolved over the trilogy? Are you still a student or are you now a collaborator who has an equally strong voice?

Mr. Roshan: Well, I think the best part is that we are both students. My father is constantly learning, constantly evolving. He works without any ego. In fact, he has no issues in calling my friends over and discussing his screenplay with them. Friends like Farhan Akhtar and Aditya Chopra, they often come and hear his screenplay and he is takes feedback from them. He is always looking for growth and of course whatever I have learnt, I have learnt from him.

Anupama: You call yourself a peaceful warrior - what does that mean?

Mr. Roshan: I often associate with those two words. I am a peaceful guy. I don't let my rules get violated. If something needs to be set right, and then I will go ahead and set it right, whether it's people or whether it's injustice. I don't believe in assuming things where people say something and you assume it was said in such a tone that you pick a fight. I left all that back in school. It seems very childish to me because there is no need for that. Life is about going towards happiness. There's always stress. We all going through stress as it is, why add to it?

Anupama: George Clooney said in an interview that when you're famous and successful, there are very few people to tell you that you are an idiot. Do you have people around you who can tell you that?

Mr. Roshan: I want to say yes. But now that I think of it, nobody has told me that I have been an idiot. Maybe I have just never been an idiot [smiles.] I want to believe that I have people around me in my life who will tell me the truth of how things are and I will always look for that because I believe those are the only ways through which you can grow, through positive feedback, through criticism which you have to understand is just a point of view and it doesn't hurt. Find out for yourself whether it works for you or doesn't.

Anupama: You describe yourself as a WIP - a work in progress. So how does a superhero try to better himself?

Mr. Roshan: A superhero is all about his super weaknesses. If you see every superhero, there is a Peter Parker for every Spiderman, there is a Clark Kent for every Superman and the list goes on. Being associated so closely with a superhero propels me even more now to find out what my true potential is. I sat down and listed out all the things that I would want to go through in this journey. All the things that are happening in my life, I have decided that I want to go through this because I want to see if I can overcome them or not. So then it becomes a game and I am enjoying the process. If I am down or going through some kind of a struggle, I just have to look at two things. One is, what would a superhero do, and the other thing is how am I going to make this an example for my kids?

Watch "The Front Row with Anupama Chopra" Friday at 8:30 pm on Star World for the full conversation with Hrithik Roshan.
