His journey from television to films is different from the other telly wonders. Inspite being famous on TV as Gaurav Channa, he got his name changed for the silver screen. His debut film opposite the dimpled girl, Preity Zinta was much delayed and bombed at the box-office. But Rhehan Malleik is not going to stop himself. He is strong headed that he will make it big in tinsel town. He takes his failures with a pinch of humour which keeps him going.
Q. Why did you change your name from Gaurav Channa to Rehan Malik?
The name change was done because the PR team that Gaurav name didn't work for films. In my own class I had 6 boys named Gaurav. Moreover Channa was not sounding good. So Rehan Malik came to being. My uncle used to always call me Malikbhai, who somewhere introduced me to films. So now I'm Rehan Malik.
Q. How was the experience on working with Preity Zinta and French actress, Isabella?
Working both thee lovely ladies was awesome. Preity Zinta is a very courageous girl. Not only on-screen, you see the work she does off-screen too. She has always stood for terrorism, cleanliness. Moreover it was the biggest film an actress could produce. She had put so much of money and effort in it. French actress, Isabella was so humble on the sets. I remember she used to write her Hindi dialogues in Roman English in French. All of us on the its couldn't understand what she was doing? But it was damn funny and she is really fun to work with him.
Q. Did Ishkq In Paris failure disappoint you
Yes, it did. Moreover we had waited for this film for such a long time. The promo of the film was out long back but it released this May. Ishkq In Paris is like God, no one has seen it! (Laughs)
Q. So do you regret doing the film?
No! There are no regrets.
Q. Television or films? What do you prefer?
First thing there is a blur line between television and films. If Amitabh Bachchan can do TV than anyone can do, though it is Mr. Bachchan and he can do anything. I came here to become an actor. Though I started with television, my focus is on films right now. But I'm not saying TV will not interest me. If there is a great role in TV or films, I'm surely in to play.
Q. Tell me one quality in you that set you apart from the other actors?
Resilient. I don't know if other actors have that quality or no, but being resilient is surely my USP.
Q. Do you think that the industry kids get easy entry?
Yes, of course. But I'm not jealous of them or envy them. It's basic that their father's have been in the industry so the son gets a film 20 years down the line. But I'm not complaining. It's ok if I'm not a Kapoor or a Khan.
Q. So what were the struggles you have been through as an outsider?
Like any outsider, the struggle was there but I have no qualms with it. There is no one forcing you to go through those struggles. You have choose to be in that field so now face it!
Q. Who has been your icon, whom you have idolized?
Amitabh Bachchan, first and the last name on my list.
Q. Which actress do you love the most?
Madhuri Dixit
