Movie: Nasha
Language: Hindi
Starring: Poonam Pandey, Shivam
Directed by: Amit Saxena

For a film whose title alone holds promise of a cinematic high, 'Nasha' brings you down in more ways than one. The handling of the teacher-student romance is as messy as the aftermath of letting loose a raging bull in a china shop. Amit Saxena's film is as mature as the 18-year-old protagonist - who is not very mature at all. As a result, 'Nasha' is unintentionally hilarious and bound to make you wonder what YOU were smoking when you thought paying to watch this film was a good idea.

What's it about?
Panchgani teenager Saahil (Shivam) falls head over heels for his summer school instructor Anita (Poonam Pandey). Despite having a girlfriend, he makes valiant attempts to win Anita's affections until his teacher's boyfriend shows up. Following fully filmi tradition, Anita's boyfriend is a jerk with a roving eye, who says 'baby' a few hundred times a minute and thus, why wouldn't she be madly in love with him? Soon, Boyfriend Le Bum exposes himself for the rascal he is, and clears the way for Saahil. Will he and Anita have a happy ending?

As Anita, Poonam Pandey would beat Cameron Diaz hands down in a Bad Teacher title championship wrestling match. From tutoring students on how to pick the right ice cube to allowing arm wrestling between her boyfriend and Saahil, her methods are enough to make Dr Radhakrishnan perform cartwheels in his grave. Still, she doesn't make an entire mess of her lines, though remains a tease (even Shivam loses all his clothes, but not Ms Pandey!).

Shivam, however, is a different story. For most of the film, he walks around with an expression that's more shell-shocked than smitten. Also annoying is the jarring background score used during Shivam's scenes and sex fantasies. But then, when was subtlety ever Mr Saxena's middle name?

What to do?
The sex scenes in 'Nasha' are of the kind you might have seen before, but the acting is uniquely cringe-worthy. Don't let curiosity get the better of you - give this one a miss.

in.com rating: 1/5

P.S. This reviewer is currently trying to find out whether warning you about 'Nasha' is an act of charity that could double up as an income tax deductible donation. Wish her luck.

Nasha Movie Review: A Big NO! Watch Full Movies Online @ Rs. 199/M Boxtv.com Rating: 2.0/5What can be expected the best from a Poonam Pandey movie? And the answer is easy enough: seduction and skin shows. Ms Pandey's Bollywood debut movie Nasha provides an overdose of everything related to the word 'sex', with no worthy performance. Nasha is an erotic thriller by the Jism director Amit Saxena, that has hit the theatres today. The film has been in the news, ever since it was conceptualised. But, we feel that Nasha is certainly not worth this hype and craze around. Story: Nasha revolves around the story of an 18 year old boy who falls hopelessly in love with a 25 year old woman. A woman he cannot have, but a woman he cannot help but desire. And, as is the case with desires unfulfilled, they turn into obsessions. The movie emphasizes that in a world of temptation, romance is temporary, love is lonely, but addiction is forever. Nasha throws light on the growing up ages and the stories of teenage infatuation, that at times get highly influenced by lust and sexual attractions. Though Saxena sexes up a major portion of the film, there's also a genuine, emotional factor that could not be ignored. Performances: Sorry to disappoint all the Poonam Pandey fans out there. But, Ms Pandey's acting is pathetic in the flick. And here's a suggestion to Poonam- Please save us from your upcoming movie plans and do not waste time in taking up any acting classes. The newcomer Shivam is rather far better and confident in his role of a teenager, who is head over heel in love with an older woman. Verdict: One needs to understand that the word 'S' doesn't really work everytime for a film's success. There's something called 'ACTING' that is required too. Nasha is a big 'NO' from me. I can't help, but wonder, was the hype over this film even required?

Movie Review: Nasha is a tease that never reaches its climax

Friday, Jul 26, 2013, 17:22 IST | Agency: DNA

The film neither titillates nor pushes the envelope in storytelling or execution.

- Facebook

Film: Nasha
Cast: Poonam Pandey, Shivam
Director: Amit Saxena
Rating: *

What's it about
Older woman younger boy romance gets a sexual twist in this tale where lust and love seem like two sides of the same coin. Anita (Poonam) is a high school teacher (we never see her in class!) who becomes the object of 18-year-old Saahil's (Shivam) obsession.

Most of the first half veers between objectifying Pandey as a sexual object in various dream sequences. The second deals with Saahil's jealousy of Anita's tumultuous relationship with her boyfriend. Eventually, what stays in the end are the uncomfortable scenes of love making between the lead pair.

What's hot
The only saving grace in the film is the somewhat likeable camaraderie between Saahil and his gang of friends.

What's not
Nasha is a tease that never reaches its climax (no pun intended!). Poonam's close ups and the silly love making scenes will make you chuckle in distaste. The premise might be potent but the treatment and production values just don't add up to the drama.

Shivam looks the part, but is constantly in a semi charmed state of daze. His lust for Anita seems forced and his 'performance' in the make out scenes is better left unrated!

What to do
Nasha should have been titled Sazaa as it neither titillates nor pushes the envelope in storytelling or execution. Don't fall for this one!

Movie review: Nasha

SAURABH DWIVEDI NEW DELHI, JULY 26, 2013 | UPDATED 18:12 IST

Nasha

Cast: Poonam Pandey, Shivam, Ranbir Chakma

Direction: Amit Saxena

Rating: Minus Zero

After reading this review you must recommend me for a bravery award. Poonam Pandey's Nasha is a cheap and forgettable film, despite all the loud claims she made on Twitter. The storyline is weak and the acting is pathetic. Nasha is such a bad film that it needs to be ranked 'Minus Zero'. This is because some see a wee bit of positivity in a zero too. Therefore to dispel any such remote notions, it's a Minus Zero.

It is the story of a school in Panchgani where the students are loud, shameless and boisterous. They do not mind sharing cheap jokes and making adult comments. Poonam Pandey's entry in this school as a theatre teacher is all that was needed! A boy called Sahil falls for her and then comes her boyfriend Samuel who, much to the chagrin of Poonam, begins to trouble Sahil.

Samuel is actually the story's villain who breaks Poonam's heart as she discovers his other affair and his bad habits (he is caught in a rave party!) Sahil comes to support his heart-broken Ma'am. But this moralistic teacher says she must go away as this relationship is immoral - but not before she has a steamy sex session with her student!

Poonam Pandey is a disaster in the name of acting. Her husky voice sounds terrible on screen. Her acting in the film is so pathetic that when she was shouting, people in the cinema hall were laughing!

This 'upright' teacher teaches the most immoral lesson of love - "Love is like summer vacations, it gives different type of pleasure every year," says Poonam and the crowd hails it with a loud applause! The screenplay is cliched and the songs are mediocre. Amit Saxena has failed miserably as a director. His Jism was classy because it had the Bhatt camp background, but Nasha is nothing but P-grade (Poonam Grade).

Sahil is average, his Ma'am is horrible and Samuel is good. Camera work is average and editing is quite poor.

Those who want to go to theatres in hope of watching bold scenes will be in for disappointment because everything bold has been shown in the promos.

This film has exposed the 'acting' skills of Poonam Pandey and I am sure any sensible film maker will think twice before signing her. It is a cheap and dangerous Nasha that should be avoided at all costs!

'Nasha' review: When Ma'am's the word!

Khalid Mohamed | 10 hours 55 min ago
Poonam Pandey in a still from the erotic movie 'Nasha'

Cast: Poonam Pandey, Shivam Patil
Director: Amit Saxena
Rating: Two stars

Pssst pssst, nudge nudge, wink wink. A woman's in the throes of a soapsudsy bath, the camera skates up and down her wet legs, cuts to her wetter curlilocks, returns to the legs, and halts on her back like a fast local train would at a railway station. End of titillation? Not quite. The camera zooms towards the legs all over again. How you wish the lady would grab a towel, dry herself and get the hell out of that power shower. Really, now.

From the very first frame, director Amit Saxena's 'Nasha', has no compunctions about flaunting its leg fetish. To each his own kink, then. The snag is that with a smidgen of taste and finesse, this rehash of the timeless 'Summer of '42' with elements from Hollywood's teenage prickflicks (like Porky's), could have been an above-average dekko at the sexual anxieties which, preternaturally, overwhelm the youth during their coming-of-age.

Very obtusely, at one point, the schoolboy who goes weirdly psychotic (there's a reference to Shah Rukh Khan's K-k-k-Kiran act in 'Darr', if you please), gazes at the photos of his long-dead mother. Now if that's an explanation for the boy's insane lust for that Shower Power ma'am, it's not only simplistic but silly. Throughout, the fatal attraction of the 17-year-old Saahil (Shivam Patil) towards Anita Ma'am (Poonam Pandey), is obviously catered to the audience's baser instincts. So why throw in a bit of psycho-babble in between the frames?

Amit Saxena, who returns to direction 10 years after the Bipasha Basu heat parade 'Jism', goes for the B-grade sexflick mode, yielding such cornmanaship as a group of male teenagers about to jump into a swimming pool, stark naked. Fine, boys will be boys and all that. Arrives a group of girls, they gawk at the nudists below the belt nudists, and go, "Hawww!" Innuendo full-on intended. Also masturbation, no longer a taboo topic in the Bollywood movies, is shown here for a scene which is not only odd, but embarrasing: an Uncle type (portrayed by an Anupam Kher wannabe) catches Saahil in the act, beams happily and eggs the boy on a like a sports cheerleader would. Strange, very strange.

Moreover, the characters are patently abnormal, the kind who're plausible only on the paper of a mediocre screenplay. Anita Ma'am, who doesn't like being called 'ma'am' incidentally, parachutes into a Panchgani school, resides in a roomy bungalow inherited from a lately deceased chacha, and is appointed summer-school teacher with no specific skills. "Let's do a play," she coos. "Someding romaaantic, someding lurv story, someding musicaal." And what do you know? The school's ultra-strict dean approves rightaway. Presumably, the dean's blinder than a dingbat. No objections are raised at all to Anita Ma'am's micro-hot pants. Nice, nice, only if all deans were as permissive.

And so the male fantasy of a screenplay chugs on. Besotted Teenager becomes manically possessive of Hotpants Teacher, wants to plunge a knife into her majorly yuck-so-creepy-crawly, live-in boyfriend, discards his campus cutie callously and carries home-cooked biryani to ma'am's villa. She's dumb enough not to sense the boy's infatuation, often quizzing him with a, "Whad eees wrong wid youuu?" Meanwhile, that Creepy Crawly hits on a schoolgirl, depicted awfully in a scene set in a dark movie auditorium. Ugh.

The second-half literally runs out of steam. And at long last, the finale ends the purported erotic love story on an offensively male-chauvinistic note.

Honestly, with a far more sensitive and clich-free screenplay, this 'Nasha' could have been a superior product. Saxena's shot takings are pretty cool (except when he has to celebrate the legs and toes of Ma'am), the Panchgani hilltown locations are marvellously lensed by James Fowlds, and the young ensemble cast is efficient. Debutant Shivam Patil is particularly impressive, confident and nuanced, without ever going over the top. Surely, he deserved a better first film.

By contrast, the obviously dubbed Poonam Pandey leaves much to be desired. She lacks the screen presence to carry the weight of an entire project.

At most, here's old 'Nasha' in a new bottle. Tastes flat.

Nasha movie review: Poonam Pandey's debut is lazily scripted and boringly directed!

Nasha movie review: Poonam Pandey's debut is lazily scripted and boringly directed!

Touted as a slick erotic story of a teenage boy falling for a mature woman, director Amit Saxena's Nasha is flat, hollow and mind-numbingly boring

Poonam Pandey can do two things exceptionally well – create controversy and bask in their glory to enjoy the media glare for as long as it lasts. But much to our surprise, we discovered, the babe can dare to act too.

Known for opening her mouth wide only to make promises that will make headlines (remember her vow to strip to absolutely nothingness if Team India won the cricket World Cup?) and creating sensations by uploading provocative (read: tacky) pictures on a microblogging site, the Pandey gal has shown some determination to go beyond her usual 'body of work' in her debut movie,Nasha. But Amit Saxena's lazy direction and his inefficiency in utilising the 'resources' easily available to him could only damage brand Poonam Pandey rather than taking it a step ahead or converting morphing the publicity-hungry babe into a promising onscreen seductress.

We could have ignored Saxena's huge mistake of NOT tapping into Poonam's real 'potential', if only he had given us a truly engaging story in return. Alas, the director has failed on both counts and what you get is a film that leaves you searching for the exit door.

Sahil (Shivam) is your regular testosterone-charged teenager who loves to hang out with his gang and have fun with his girlfriend. Poonam (Anita) plays the newly appointed teacher in the school where Sahil studies. While Sahil's gang of boys are busy admiring Anita's well-endowed body, the young stud falls in love with the lady. He even starts developing a relationship with her. Soon Sahil is left heartbroken when he finds out that Anita has been in a relationship with Samuel for the past five years. What leads to this unexpected revelation is a series of emotional atyachaars Sahil goes through to learn to draw a definite line between lust and love. Will Sahil gain the love of his life if he expresses his true feelings for Anita? That is the basic plot of Nasha.

Interestingly – and ironically – the Shiv Sena burned posters of Nasha before its release, saying that the hoardings looked objectionable. If the politically charged Sainiks watched the film, they would realise that they have clearly wasted their time objecting to a movie that has absolutely nothing in it – not even a concrete plot! Even those who walk into the theatres with the sole purpose of feasting their eyes on tempting revelations that Poonam promised in the promos will have to be satisfied with a couple of passionate kissing sequences and a scene in which Poonam takes a walk in her chaddis. In fact, the boys in the movie have shown more skin than the desperate damsel.

Performance wise, Poonam has delivered a fine act for a debutante. With almost all her scenes shot with the intention of highlighting her heavy bosom and glorifying her curvy posterior, she gets a very little scope to deliver anything as an actor. Miss Pandey needs to learn to use her facial expressions to convey what she wants to say. Instead, in most intense scenes she heaves her bosom heavily to show frustration or desperation. Her anglicised Hindi gets on your nerves after a point. Shivam is the better actor. The lad looks comfortable before the camera and seems promising. The music is strictly okay and the slick cinematography is the only saving grace of this otherwise below-ordinary production.

In short, just like Poonam Pandey's tall promises, Amit Saxena's Nasha is empty. It promises to be titillating, but remains bereft of any real action or entertainment!
