First meeting
Much before Ranbir and Katrina were cast opposite each other in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009), it was Deepika Padukone who first introduced Katrina to Ranbir. Deepika had taken her then boyfriend to Katrina's birthday bash.
Sources say it was the same party where Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan had their infamous brawl on July 16, 2008.
Possibly true because Katrina refrained from having a birthday party in the following years as it reminded her of the ugly fight between SRK and Salman.

Bonding time
Ranbir and Katrina got to know each other better as co-stars when they did their first film - Raj Kumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009).
At the time, Katrina was still with Salman Khan and Ranbir was with Deepika. So it can easily be assumed that Ranbir and Katrina had started meeting each other for official reasons sometime in the end of 2008.
It would have to be that early as Santoshi is known to take long time to complete his films.

Cool camaraderie
It was noted that when Ranbir and Katrina made their first public appearance together to promote Raajneeti at a media event in 2010, Katrina behaved like a giggly school girl on his arm.

Both Ranbir and Katrina smartly managed to keep their very private holiday off the eyes of the media, but the secret was out when a rather enthusiastic fan posted pictures of the two having a good time in Ibiza.
The two were even spotted attending a David Guetta concert a few days ago in Spain.
Hide n' seek
Reports about Ranbir and Katrina's proximity regularly kept appearing in the tabloids. Often her car would be spotted entering his bungalow on Pali Hill.
At times, they were spotted at restaurants in and around Bandra. They even spent the New Year's eve together in New York in 2012.
More recently, they came together for Karan Johar's birthday bash.
'Supportive' dad
At a time when there were constant reports about Ranbir's roving eye, his father, senior actor Rishi Kapoor, had evaded saying: "My son is like any other young boy. Abhi nahin karega toh kab karega?"
Together again
Post Rockstar (2011), Ranbir and Katrina got back together and decided to give their relationship one more chance.
Of course, it was Katrina who took the lead because she couldn't get over Ranbir and was completely besotted with him.
Twist in the story
After Ajab Prem… and Raajneeti surfaced stories about Ranbir-Katrina affair fizzling out. This was around the time Ranbir had started work on Rockstar in 2010 and rumours began circulating about his growing proximity with Nargis Fakhri.
At the time, Ranbir was not sure of his equation with Katrina.

Tera hone laga hoon
Outdoor locations, faraway from Indian shores, are known to promote bonding between co-stars. Not surprisingly, Ranbir and Katrina shot major romantic songs like Tera hone laga hoon and Tu Jaane na in Turkey.

The split with Deepika
It's difficult to say with 100 per cent surety if Katrina was the sole reason why Deepika and Ranbir split.
During media interactions of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, it was more than apparent that Katrina and Ranbir had gotten close.
Reports had also surfaced that Deepika and Ranbir were having their fights. Deepika's grouse being that Ranbir was never around. They split sometime in 2010.
Salman scare
When Ranbir started getting to know Katrina, he was not sure of how that would go down with Salman Khan, who was with Katrina for almost eight years. He probably feared the famous Salman temper.
After Salman got wind of a budding romance between the two, he obviously wasn't too thrilled about it initially.
