Actor Siddharth Malhotra, who shot to fame with Karan Johar's Student of The Year (2012), gives full credit to KJo for shaping his career, and is happy that the director is letting him grow on his own now.
"(SOTY co-actors) Alia (Bhatt), Varun (Dhawan) and I will always be grateful to Karan for mentoring us, grooming us, and teaching us the basics. Working as an assistant director with him on My Name is Khan (2010) helped me a lot in understanding the process of filmmaking," says the 28-year-old actor, whose career graph is soaring with upcoming films such as KJo's Hasee Toh Phasee and The Villain, produced by Ekta Kapoor.
Asked if he still seeks advice from his mentor before taking important decisions, he says, "Not really, as he is occupied with his set of work and my schedule keeps me occupied. Also, I think he has pampered us enough during SOTY so now he has left me on my own and wants me to learn from my mistakes."
The actor feels he has experienced his set of hardships before getting noticed. "Now I can say that the industry has welcomed me well after I have had my share of struggle."
Sid likes being famous
Fame has not changed Siddharth Malhotra as a human being but things and people around him have changed a bit and he is fully enjoying it. "Now I don't have to stand in queues to get bookings done at restaurants or cinema halls...so that is like an advantage and my friends get quite impressed with it," says Siddharth who was in Delhi to launch the new Vespa VX.
"We were crazy for bikes, as there were no such scooters when we were growing up. But these scooters are vibrant and gel well with the sensibilites of today's youth. Now we see them in many movies as well and even I would love to ride one in one of my films."
