'I had no idea about my popularity there...'

Recently, Celina Jaitly put in a cameo appearance at the opening of a local mall in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she is shooting for Suneel Darshan's Shaka Laka Boom Boom.

To her utter surprise, the actress was mobbed by a group of schoolgirls, who kept calling out to her with her nickname — Chinky.

The drama took a serious turn when the girls surrounded her car and refused to let her go till she hugged them individually.

When the security personnel tried to take them away, they started bawling and were pacified only when the actress stepped out and interacted with them. The experience has prompted Celina to set up an official fan club in the city.

"I was completely taken aback by my fan following in Johannesburg. This is my sixth visit to the city and I had no idea about my popularity there, especially among the children.

They kept screaming, 'Celina, don't go'. I didn't know that it would take such a serious turn. They actually started crying and rolling on the floors till I came out and met them. To respect their sentiments, I shall soon launch an official fan club here," says Jaitly.

The actress reveals that her designer outfits, jewellery and other belongings will be auctioned by the fan club and the proceeds will be given to NGOs.

"I have always felt that our fans play a pivotal role in making us popular. I want to reach out to them through my fan club. As for my belongings, there are so many things that are discarded off after a film is over. It's always a pleasure to give it out to someone else," says Jaitly.

Previously, the actress had given away a white gown that she wore in the film Janasheen.

"There was this particular fan who wanted to wear that white gown on her wedding day. I spoke with Mr Feroz Khan and we finally managed to courier it to her. She was thrilled to receive it. Nothing can be as rewarding when you can bring a smile on someone's face," adds Celina.

Ask her about her shooting experience and she says, "Jo'burg is no strange land for me. But this time, the weather is pretty cold and there are frequent storms. We have called off our outdoor shoot already a few times because of the lightning and thunder showers."
