He has great sense of humour and it shows but when it comes to work, Abhishek Kapoor is a serious man. A man who is sure of what he is doing. "The world might perceive me as an experimental filmmaker, but I don't experiment. I am totally sure of what I do," says Abhishek with a glint in his eyes. But does he have to prove himself in the industry with every film he makes considering the fact that he doesn't have any big stars in his upcoming film? "I don't have to prove myself, that has never been my agenda," says he and adds, "Stars always think about what the film can do for them while the others think what they can do for the film." But that is not going to dissuade the filmmaker from working with stars, "I will surely make film with big stars when there is a requirement. Even in Kai Po Che I wanted to work with one particular star but that did not Work Out," says Abhishek.
Abhishek, who has a long period of struggle behind him says, "I could either use my anger to get doomed or use it to make life better. I chose the latter and pulled this off. I went through a lot." He further adds, "I started in the industry about 20 years ago when there were just twoHeroes, Mithun Chakraborty and Govinda, The Rest used to imitate them. I did not groom myself well and bad some bad decisions in the films that I did. Ekta (Kapoor), who is my cousin, had suggested that I take up acting in television but I did not want to do that." Abhishek is looking to work with his cousin soon on a film and is right now in talks with her.
So when he wasn't interested in acting in television serials, why then years later did he choose to do a reality show? "To be honest, after Rock On!! I had bought a house and I ran short of money. The reality show was a good opportunity for me as I got to not only earn good money but also spend some quality time with my friends at Brazil, doing stunts which were pretty cools," says he.
But for someone who comes from a filmy background, Abhishek keeps a few friends from the industry; most of his close friends don't belong here. "I do have a few friends in here but don't keep too many of them," says Abhishek and adds, "I don't take the industry too seriously."
Though Abhishek started his career with acting, he found success in direction but it was not before it had affected his love life too. "I have gone through rough patches in my career and when one is struggling there is no regular income which takes a toll on your relationships," shares Abhishek who had a few good relationships that did not work out. But Abhishek hasn't given up on love; he is seeing someone now who is a Swedish of Indian origin. So does he plan to tie the knot any time soon? "Its going on good for now so let's see...," replies Abhishek.
