Even Sridevi was a good dancer and while dancing has amazing expressions, for eg. Hawa Hawaii song from Mr.India, Mere Hathoon Mein from Chandani.

@IAmAHunter: Completely agree..She was fab in many of her South movies..I actually saw Moondram Pirai before Sadma and was floored with her performance..How awesome were Kamal and Sri in that film..the last scene still gives me goosebumps whenever i watch it..

Sridevi is better in everything for me mafhuri is overated she is good no doubt but overhyped from the fans and the media but Sridevi is much better she even compete the male in her time and just look at her comeback and madhuri and you will know the difference

Sridevi debuted in Bollywood as heroine in 1979.She became a star with Himmatwala in 1983.
Madhuri debuted in 1984 and became a star with Tezaab in 1988.
So u can see the difference! Sridevi was already a star before madhuri entered the industry. She worked in Sadma in 1983.That means she got success before madhuri's entry. So obviously she will get better films and better roles than madhuri.
I feel both are good and talented.Both have their own unique style of acting and dancing. Both are legends.

Sridevi's entire body of work across whole of Indian cinema (not just Bollywood) is mindblowing. Madhuri is no way an equal. Madhuri would be called an all time great in just Hindi cinema whereas Sridevi's an all time great across whole of Indian cinema - her name would figure in annals of cinematic history be it in Tamil, Telugu or Hindi films. She's worked with every significant actor of that era and most importantly, given hits with all of them. As an actress she was original and highly versatile. Numerous iconic characters both in commercial and offbeat cinema to her credit in all industries which she ruled when she was in her prime. She was a successful and talented child artiste also.

The only reason why she gets less due or less of congratulatory write ups for her nowadays (not in past, but now) is her reclusiveness, lack of PR and poor relations with media.

Bashers cite her weak voice, lack of command over Hindi etc. as a drawback. But that's not going to take anything away from her superior filmography and formidable career achievements from childhood onwards.

Madhuri modeled herself after Madhubala, had a couple of hit songs, obviously great and uninhibited dancer and fortune of hitting her prime in an improved era of Hindi cinema. She's great in her own right and the last star-actress in Bollywood. But not equal to Sridevi.

Madhuri's handling of media and her stardom is better. She keeps reviving her past glory through coverage in print, performances in award shows etc. so people are more acquainted with her and assume her as superior. Obviously you have to tell people about your achievements and only then they'll recognise you! Sridevi on other hand, is painfully reclusive so those who already know about her status or try to find about it judge her as equal or on par. The rest who probably know her only through Mr India would carelessly dismiss her.

To know Sridevi's status people better know that her comeback was supposed to be multi-lingual, in Hindi cinema Amitabh had agreed to star in her film and in Tamil, Rajinikanth had agreed (multi-lingual idea was dropped only after Rajini fell seriously ill and was admitted to hospital). Can any other actress boast of such clout around age of 50? NOPE!

The only weakness Sridevi has is that she's never wielded her power herself. All her life first it was her mother who controlled every step she took, then it was Boney Kapoor. She claims she enjoys her life as a homebody. But I bet if she had tried to be active like Hema Malini or Madhuri, then people would've realised what stature she has!

Brilliantly Written...the other day I was reading her interview and she said that she never had a childhood ..so now she does all the girly stuff with her 16 yr old...

I personally prefer Mads. Never found Sri too much of an actress in her heydays despite bagging better roles. Its like Katrina bagging a YC film over Kareena/PC but we know that YC choosing Kat over them wasnt strictly because she is a better actress than them. I feel Sri did a much better job in EV than she ever did in any of her films in her heydays. She always had the tendency to act 'babyish' in every film.

Please don't use the YC/Katrina analogy for Sridevi! Sridevi didn't get roles just like that!

She wasn't always babyish. Laadla is far from babyish. There's a film with Rajesh Khanna and Smita Patil in which Sridevi plays an unwed mother, she was fab in it and no way kiddish. She was able to hold her ground even against a powerful actress like Smita Patil (and she was not even doing a glam role, she'd played a domestic help in it).

Even in Lamhe, she went extra length to make the older Pallavi more proper and mature.

The difference in acting capabilities of Sri and Madhuri is vast. Madhuri's most challenging roles are limited to Anjaam and Mrityudand. Sridevi has done far more challenging stuff and that too at much younger age. Let any actress attempt Sadma and see if she can pull it off better.
Sridevi was great in comedy and action also.

In my opinion true test of an actor is what he/she manages even in a trashy film. In action, take Sridevi's Sherni and Madhuri's Aansoon Baney Angarey. Compare and see the difference yourself - as to who pulled off action more convincingly. You will get an answer.

Well I guess I have to rewatch Sridevis films cause right now I have madhuri. Maybe for some reason Bollywood conditioned us to believe MD is the best actress of maybe last 20 years . Someone said MD has better public relations than Sridevi so could that be it . That being said all I know of Sridevi is that she was in movies with Anil Kapoor and her new film EV . I saw her movie judaai total thrash W*F and urmila acted better than her . She was ham city . But MD has variety of roles . Maybe EV worked and AN didn't cause AN was star vehicle and women can't do star vehicles at this age . But EV was real story and real character .


It's md for me but I'll have to rewatch some movies
