Was Abraham from The Dirty Picture relatable?

I was watching a re-telecast of The Dirty Picture on Television. Despite having watched it over a hundred times, this touched a different thought this time, especially while viewing Abraham's(Hashmi) scenes. I found it interesting how he found himself drawn to her despite his overwhelming "repulsion" of her and efforts of restraint. How real did it seem to you as a viewer? Could you identify with it? Have you ever been attracted to anybody in a similar fashion? Shoot.

Love and hatred - they both are emotions. Love is deep and hatred is volatile. Abraham's hatred for Silk was volatile and intense. And hatred doesn't mean indifference - as someone has rightly said- Hatred simply means that you have passionate feelings for someone.

Abraham turned Silk into the center of his existence while hating her. That passionate hatred became his reason to live . And when Silk was finished, he realized that there was nothing to drive him ahead- that fire which Silk gave was dying out. It is then that it hit him that hatred too is a sentiment and he was emotionally bound to Silk.

Just my two cents on Abraham-Silk.

yes thats the strongest form of sexual/intense feeling one can get! i get it all the time- the people i hate but i can't help feel attracted towards them because of something. Repulsion can be the strongest form of attraction at times!

I think it does happen in real life also. But not with me. When I detest someone, I begin to loathe them even more with time 😆 so I personally couldn't relate to the character. But I loved Hashmi-Balan scenes in the film. There were few scenes but all of them were > 👍🏼

YES!

haha that HAS happened to me before. When you dislike someone based on assumptions/first impression, that person stays in your mind against your will

the more you think about that person, the more you kinda wanna get to know them, but at teh same time you still want to hate on them to not injure your own ego

I guess when Abraham sees Silk break down a bit and see her with broken wings after her film bombs, he sees like a more vulnerable side to her...and that encourages him to be a bit less mean about the way he thought of her/perceived her initially, because in the beginning, all she was to him was a pompous, fat, but successful girl

It's a pretty interesting mesh of attraction and human behavioural tendencies... and it was nicely incorporated into the movie

I wish they'd spent a bit more time elaborating this angle, because the story seemed to be in a rush to head to the dramatic ending.

Emraan Hashmi's dialogue at this juncture of the film-Main woh doggy ban gaya tha jo Silk ko katne ke baad khud paagal ho gaya tha.😆The film has epic dialogues!

This character and this subject in particular, are actually quite close to my heart. I can kind of "know", identify with it. As livearch described, it is a peculiar duality of feeling- I could never bring myself to like him completely, and thinking about him almost invariably got me worked up. But as it goes, the more you think, the more you analyze. And your subconscious recognizes that there ARE things highly admirable, along with those that are annoying. But you want to insist on disliking them-in the process making them a magnet to you. It's a very exasperating thing that is sort of delightful in a twisted way. You can never figure out your feelings correctly. Every time you analyze, you end up with different conclusions and your love and hate for the person refuses to reconcile to each other, leaving you confused as ever. And this, more often than not, escalates into obsession. I was in the thick of this situation when I watched the movie, and this track clasped on immediately. It must be similar for everybody here who's gone through it. Total "been-there-had-that".
