5 things that Karan Johar's SOTY reminds us of!

Student Of The Year Movie Poster

We all have seen KJo doing that before, in all his movies, that special touch that special magic he creates, the special love songs, with explicit cinematography, Karan Johar has always managed to sway his audience and embark on a journey to gaga-land.

With the latest, youngest, hip and happening child out of his production house, making millions of moolah at the silver screen, Student of the Year, is what is hailing over all minds. Karan has a timeline and follows some gimmicks that we have seen him putting to use before.

Student Of The Year is an entertainer, but this entertaining flick, in parts reminds all of some sequences and techniques all seen before. Let's revisit the past:

1) A gang meets, discusses about their past life, what had happened, what circumstances, their tales of friendships, enmity, hatred, love, etc is an age-old concept. In SOTY also, they are forced to have a reunion, and hence then flashback begins. One of the best techniques applied to make it a new concept but Alas! We have seen the newness in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na(2008) and in this one it can be called a second in line new touch to the age old concept.

2) Varun Dhawan as Rohan Nanda (Ro) when glimpsed at quickly sent the stimulus to the brain which recollected the beach scene where Salman Khan bare bodied, all surrounded with crowd and his own group, stuck the chords of O O Jane Jana in Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya(1998). As Ro belongs to the Gen Y he struts around singing "Who gives the f*** to Papa?"

3) Alia Bhatt singing Gulabi Ankhen Jo Meri Dekhi is a sheer reminder of Kareena Kapoor singing and dancing to "It's raining men" in K3G (2001). She is in love with herself totally, wears all designer dresses, loves all the guy attention, has girlfriends and is a little dumb and stupid. So is Alia, all she knows is about designers and their works, make up and accessories and confused between two hot guys after her, loves herself and is also a little stupid.

4) We all love the way Hrithik Roshan was introduced to his college mates in London in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham way back in 2001, and now love Abhimanyu Singh (Sidharth Malhotra) as the Kukkad Kamaal Ka of his school. Like Hrithik looked hot, played sports, became the talk of the college, matched steps with all, swayed flexibly around, raising the anticipation amongst all about "Who is he?", Siddharth's entry is more of a stud and cool dude, playing basketball, football, dancing and loving all the attention he is bagging, adding all the more to the curiosity levels about "Who's that guy?". But KJo keeps the same technique matching pace with the technology and the Gen Next.

5) Now there has to be an Indie party number, a Shaadi song in KJo's movie, so from Sajan Ji Ghar Aye toBole Churiyan, the new addition to the tradition is the song Radha. The choreography department is good; one leading lady with all dancing around her, two guys, and great crowd all choreographed and rehearsed steps even in impromptu situations.

SOTY dialogues are great, no repetition in that department as such. Some sequences are according to the same formula used over and over again, old wine in new bottle sorts, but still the movie is doing well overseas as well as at the Domestic front. All the magic of previous Karan Johar flicks is intact in Student Of The Year, which was anticipated to be the new age Jo Jita Wahi Sikander but is different in story and concept.
Way to go Karan!

You think that too!!! Thank God...I'm not the only one. I showed every pic of Vikas Sethi(Robbie of K3G) on internet to my sis to convince her that Varun looks like him but she didn't find any similarity and gave some weird look to me.

That's Vikas Shethi, Robbie of K3G

shreya is taking the piss. Just ignore her message. She's part of anti-SOTY club.

I like how Varun's character relate to Salman from Saajan, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and Jab Pyaar Kisi Se hota Hai.
Rich, Spoilt, Talented, Mischievous, Ripped Body yet a kind hearted and charming. Total casanova.
