Farah Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali were thick as thieves till they fell out over the fact that they both chose to release their directorial ventures — Om Shanti Om and Saawariya — on Diwali in 2007.
However, all is well now and the two close friends have collaborated as actor and producer on a sweet, truly enjoyable film called Shirin Farhad Ki Nikal Padi.
Over to Farah and SLB:
Friend, foe, fan. What is the current equation between you two?
Farah: He was never my foe. We were always friends and as good friends do, we sometimes fight.
SLB: She's lying. We were born foes (breaks into laughter).
Farah: He talks rubbish.
SLB: Actually, she is right. We can't stay angry with each other for long. Also, our lives are intertwined in many ways. There are so many similarities. For example, both our dads were unsuccessful film producers.
Farah: Then we went from riches to rags. Both of us know each other so well that he can recount stories about my grandma and I can tell you stories of his growing-up years. We even bought seaside properties just two buildings away from each other.
SLB: And we made up after our infamous OSO-Saawariya fight over the yakhni pulao she sent me. Farah: Sanjay, you are looking so sexy in the Ram Leela get up.
SLB: Then why don't you cast me in your Happy New Year? Farah: If John Abraham doesn't give me dates, I will take you for sure. Actually, I'm not sure because Karan Johar is also angling for the same role.

Farah: If Salman had been the hero, we would still not have completed even the first scene because we would have been cracking up all the time..
SLB: Farah is a fantastic actress and she reminds me of Barbara Streisand in Funny Girl. Her wit and intelligence adds to her beauty. I think Farah is a better actor than a filmmaker and a choreographer.
Farah: My friend Sajid Nadiadwala has warned me saying Sanjay is giving me roles as an actor, so that he can distract me from directing movies.
SLB: Shirin Farhad Ki Nikal Padi is a movie I am very proud of. I have stuck my neck out because I believe in the talent of these girls — Bela Sehgal (his sister) and Farah. Both are mind-blowing.
Farah: And as long as you don't release your Ram Leela on the same day as my Happy New Year next year, we can continue to be best friends.
SLB: I think I will cast you in the sequel. What I like about Farah is the fact that she is very competitive. That makes her even more beautiful. I'm telling you she's the surprise package of the film.
