1. What was the box office performance/verdict for Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander in India?

2. If Ghajini never released, what do you think the lifetime net collections would've been for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi? Would it have been the first film to cross the 100 crore mark?

3. Are Ready and Kuch Kuch Hota Hain known to be All TIme Blockbusters in India? i'm wondering as I have heard a few different verdicts for both films

I think you should ask to boxofficeindia.com, as they are reliable source for this kind of things.

1. Jo Jeeta wohi sikandar was much appreciated by critics and been loved in the metros/big cities, but didn't worked at most small cities and rest of the places. JJWS was declared AVERAGE at boxoffice. It recovered its costs and made a little profit mainly from big cities.
If it had been released today, it would have been superhit due to multiplexes' audience, which was not the case wayback in 1992.

2. No ...RNBDJ would not have been the first 100 cr + film because due to ADJUSTED NET the first 100 cr + film was mughal e azam, then sholay and then hum aapke hain kaun...and after a long gap there came rnbdj in 2008 followed by ghajini after 2 weeks and all of them did 100 cr business.

3.Yes both KKHH and Ready are ATBB

I am aware that those films made 100 crores with adjusted net gross, but I meant as in net gross that is unadjusted. Meaning, the way that people claimed Ghajini to be the first film to enter the 100 crore club, would RBNDJ have been the first one if Ghajini never released?

yeah in that case yes rnbdj have been the first ... but trade dont work like this, adjusted net is the real thing, else sholay just would have 15 cr business and would be a flop acc to today's rate of currency, but according to adjusted net its near 200 cr and an atbb

but yeah if u r only looking for plain numbers or figures then u r right

thanks :)

is there a reliablee source for finding out the adjusted net gross for older films?

Kismet - I think gave Indian Cinema its first anit-hero. It was the first ATBB. I think it ran for 3 years in Kolkatta.Ashok Kumar became first superstar.

Bhagwaan's - Albela in 50s is another iconic movie. Out of nowhere it became a super duper hit. Bhagwaans dance steps are still famous. You won't find a baraat where Albela songs are not played and people try to imitate Bhagwaan dada dance steps.

Jai Santoshi Maa - A low budget movie with unknown stars withstood movies like Sholay and Dewar in 1975. Indian women made this movie ATBB. From Wikipedia " viewers often turned cinemas into temporary temples, leaving their footwear at the door, pelting the screen with flowers and coins, and bowing reverently whenever the goddess herself appeared". This is another cult movie,

HAHK - Gem of a marketing. It was released in only 10-12 screens in Mumbai.Theatres had to be in certain condition for screening the movie. This movie was a family event. Never seen so much scarcity of tickets for a movie. My parents say Sholay had similar craze.

BTW how come QSQT does not show up in 1980-1989 boxoffice? A big mistake. QSQT was he craze in 1988.
