The actress will play a dark character in her next film with Vikram Bhatt

Vikram Bhatt seems to have a knack of making women go gray. Esha Deol played a neurotic in Ankahee and now Amrita Arora will follow suit in his latest venture Red. For someone like Arora who has only worked in pure commercial films, this one will be a first of sorts. She says, "Vikram had the guts to see me in a totally different light. He has changed my look completely. I will even sport a nose ring dark and look very sultry. For the first time I get to play a character that is so dark. I believe Red will give me a new image."
This is the second time that Amrita Arora will work Aftab Shivdasani and Vikram Bhatt. "It's a pleasure to work with them together especially after having worked on a comic flick like Awaara Pagal Deewana earlier. But Red is a very different experience. It has opened me up as an actress," she says.
The actress confesses that her career isn't going the way she would have liked to. "I made a few mistakes. Now I'm learning to curb my impulses and looking at my career more maturely. I chose from whatever came my way. With Red I will make a fresh start," says Amrita.
Besides Red, she has also signed a BMG-Crescendo film called Deewana opposite Madhavan.
Speaking about the film she says, "It is a murder mystery and a love story done in a very different way. We're going to start this film as soon as Maddy is done with the current schedule of Mani Rathnam's film. We'll shoot in Scotland and London for 40 days and finish the film. I'm looking forward to it."
She also has Mahesh Manjrekar's Deha where Dino is paired opposite Jaya Prada and Hansal Mehta's Raakh with Sohail Khan. "It's an intense underworld flick, in which only I survive to tell the tale. Hansal Mehta has shot the film beautifully. Sohail and I are like buddies and very comfortable together," says Amrita.
Speaking of her sister Malaika, she says, "Unlike me, Malaika never wanted a serious career in films. She wants to spend time with her husband and her baby. She couldn't give those extended schedules that movies required. Doing a song in two days and returning home was more her scene. I love the buzz and the bustle. I love putting on make-up every morning."
For now though she has her fingers crossed. "I have a full plate and have to do a lot of damage control. Red and Deewana are the right steps in that direction. I'm looking for that one elusive hit and I'm taking baby steps in the right direction," she says.
