This week will mark the release of Sajid Khan's Housefull 2, a big-ticket film with an ensemble cast. Considering the theme and buzz around the film, the industry is pinning its hopes on this film. The good news is, distributors across the country are raving about the film despite IPL Season 5 and the release of the much-touted Hollywood film, Titanic 3D. It is expected to have an enormous first day, with collections crossing the Rs 15-crore mark.
In Mumbai, Sunil Wadhwa of BSK Network Entertainment says, "Housefull 2 has a massive buzz attached to it. The box office has been experiencing a dry spell for the last two weeks. Now, with the release of Housefull 2, expectations are colossal."
He says the The first day is expected to open to 90-per cent occupancy and reel in Rs 15 crore all-India. "The film will open at more than 600 screens in the Mumbai circuit alone and is expected to collect Rs 6 crore nett in the territory."
In Delhi-UP too, Housefull 2 has generated a good response. Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts reveals, "This week is undoubtedly the best week for exhibitors in Delhi-UP and East Punjab. Housefull 2 will have a magnificent opening day. Advance booking, which opened today, is around 50 per cent. The film will have an opening of around 90 to 100 per cent and its all-India NBOC will be Rs 16-17 crore. In Delhi-UP, it will open at 250-odd screens and is expected to gross Rs 4.5 crore." He adds that along with Housefull 2, Titanic 3D and Punjabi film Mirza are also expected to garner a "stupendous response".
In East Punjab, Surendra Saluja of Lakshya Movies is singing the same tune. "Housefull 2 won't be affected by the IPL at all. The film has massive expectations attached to it and the audience is very keen to watch the film due to its huge cast and hit soundtrack, which includes songs like Anarkali Disco Chali. The film will enjoy an opening of around 75 to 80 per cent and will wrap day one at Rs 1 crore. It will open at 70-plus screens in our region."
In CI, Ashok Choudhary of Neha Movies remarks, "The film has a very saleable feel. It will be opening at 80 to 90 screens in our territory, and is expected to gross Rs 80 lakh on its first day."
However, in Rajasthan, Housefull 2 has very limited scope, according to Vasudev Chachan of Sunny Films. "There is no craze among the audience for this film. It will open at 61 screens and the first day will close at around Rs 50 lakh. In Rajasthan, the day-one share for distributors is 50 per cent. Hence, the numbers are not impressive for our circuit."
In Orissa, Jeetu Khandelwal of Movie Pioneers concludes, "Housefull 2 has drawn a very vibrant and positive response in Orissa. The film will definitely open to 80 per cent occupancy and collect Rs 5-6 lakh. It is expected to release at around 50 screens here."
