Actor Sonakshi Sinha has always been in the buzz even though she made her debut two years back with Dabangg and has not had any release since. If not for her 'friendly' connections, then for controversies involving other top heroines, and competition was always quick to point out that she's not had any release for a full year, post debut. "Let her prove herself first," they would say. And seems like that moment of truth may finally have arrived, as the actor has as many five releases in the last six months of the year. A very crucial six months for Sonakshi, feels the trade, as these months might either make or break the star.
Though the trade finds it hard to comment on her performances, they feel that the films are more likely to tilt the balance in Sonakshi's favour. "It's hard to say at this point how her performance in all the films will be. What cannot be denied is that she has some of the most-talked about films in her kitty. And almost all of these films are high on masala entertainment, so there are more chances of them working at the BO, than not," says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Kickstarting with Rowdy Rathore in June, Sonakshi then has Joker in August, Lootera in October, Son Of Sardar in November and Dabangg 2 is expected in December. Pointing out that all these films are big banner movies, another industry insider feels that having back-to-back films of this magnitude may work both ways — in her favour or against her. "If it's a good film, immediately followed by a bad one, it's likely to harm her, but if it's the other way around, it will work well for her. Though it's commendable for an actor to have five back-to-back releases in six months, it would be interesting to see what's she going to be busy with next year," says the insider.
From marketing point however, insiders feel that it's better for an actor to be seen at regular intervals than be seen altogether and then go missing for long. "But no matter what the buzz, there's no denying that the last six months are bound to be crucial for the actor, as they will finally either prove her detractors right or she will silence them for good, and detractors there are loads of out there," says another insider.
