From the three releases of the week, 'Paan Singh Tomar' and 'London Paris New York' got decent openings while 'Will You Marry Me' is a washout.
Despite its long delayed release, Irrfan Khan's Paan Singh Tomar impressed the audience with a fresh story and interesting setting. After Saheb Biwi aur Gangster, Tigmanshu Dhulia proved his mettle in the hard-hitting political drama genre. The film started on a slow note but picked up tremendously over the weekend with positive word of mouth and unanimous good reviews on Irrfan's superlative act. Paan Singh Tomar managed around Rs 4 crores in its opening weekend and hopefully business should grow in coming days.
Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari's fresh chemistry worked in the new-age romance flick London Paris New York. Audiences got to see a new side of Ali Zafar usually known for his comic flair. The film was primarily aimed at the urban metro-multiplex viewers and managed to click with its target audience drawing decent numbers. The opening weekend collection is around Rs 4 crore which is decent for a medium-budgeted film like this one.
The third release Will You Marry Me, however, lost out to the other two releases of the week. With formulaic treatment and a cliched plot, the business remained extremely weak.
The coming week sees two releases. Vidya Balan's Kahaani seems hot property after her award-winning act in The Dirty Picture. Again the film largely banks on Vidya Balan and holds much promise. The second release is Tusshar Kapoor's Chaar Din Ki Chandni. After the success of Yamla Pagla Deewana, Samir Karnik seems to have unusually chosen to direct a relatively smaller film. This romantic comedy is targeted at the family audience.

Paan Singh Tomar had a good Monday as it collected around 1-1.10 crore nett. The collections were actually 30% plus higher than its first day Friday but collections were low on that day.
The film should now collect over 8 crore nett in its first week as Thursday is a holiday for Holi. Despite having a delayed release, the Monday collections ensures that Paan Singh Tomar will recover costs and if it is still yielding shares from the 3rd week onwards then it will also bring in some profit.
In 2008, A Wednesday released with a similar distribution strategy grossed around 12 crore nett and Paan Singh Tomar should cross that figure though it has to be noted A Wednesday was a smaller film in terms of production cost.
