Any other actor in his place would've signed films indiscriminately after a couple setbacks at the box-office. But Shahid has decided to take it easy… sorry, get extra choosy when it comes to signing films. While 36 CHINA TOWN released last Friday and CHUP CHUP KE is slated for June 9 release, the only film that Shahid has on floors is VIVAH [status: 85% complete, slated for November release]. Of course, there's MILENGE MILENGE, but the release date of this film is undecided.
"I am in no hurry to sign any and every film that comes my way," Shahid tells me, "In fact, I have refused a number of films in the recent past only because I wasn't too excited with the script. Getting the right script is my first priority today, everything else is secondary."
Shahid seems to be in an introspective mood. "If an actor has three films releasing back to back, there's bound to be chaos. That's one of the reasons why DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL, VAAH! LIFE HO TOH AISI and SHIKHAR went unnoticed. The moviegoers were in no mood to watch an actor's new release every second week," he admits.
So what's the gameplan now? "I am waiting for CHUP CHUP KE and VIVAH. Both have shaped up wonderfully well. The role in CHUP CHUP KE is something I haven't attempted before. I try to act deaf and mute in the film, when I am not. The role was tough to handle. I hope the character works because roles like the one in CHUP CHUP KE propel an actor to accept challenges in future," he says.
