| Aish: The Scapegoat for Many |
| Commonly known as, "the most beautiful woman in the world" and India's official ambassador to the West, Aishwarya Rai is extremely misunderstood in her own native land which, strangely should be the one place where she deserves many accolades. Though she has won many awards for her acting talents, her growing number of flops compel people to question her acting skills but one must point out that Hollywood calling doesn't come to bad actors or we'd have Jhonny Lever as the next James Bond. Despite the failures at the box office, Aishwarya or, "Aish" as her fans call her, has risen to become the ruling queen of Bollywood alongside being the highest paid actress today. She is currently working towards establishing herself in Hollywood via appearing on the cover of Time magazine and being part of the jury at the prestigious Cannes film festival. All this, I feel, has led to a lot of jealousy from her contemporaries as no other Bollywood actor or actress has achieved even half of the success Aish has and they all realize that if anyone can make it Hollywood, it's certainly Aish. If one is to carefully watch and analyze Karan Johar's gossip fest Koffee With Karan, the jealousy is painfully obvious amidst the jokes and puns made on Aish's behalf and the camp boundaries of Bollywood are also visible. Aish's turbulent relationship with Salman Khan is no secret and by saying good-bye to Salman, Aish has made a lot of enemies. As mentioned by Vivek Oberoi on an episode, many of her so-called friends ditched her in the time of need and so it is no wonder that Aish is Hollywood bound. As a result, she is also hated by the crazy and psychopathic Salman Khan fans that curse her ignorantly [as most commonly seen at the TalkBollywood Forum] and discredit her. We have people calling her rude, snotty among other such names but again, these people are oblivious to reality. Just because Aish does not kiss and tell or refuses to discuss her personal life, she is dubbed as the, "ice queen" and one is compelled to ask why? Why is it that some can't respect her right to her privacy? Why is that some take her silence and dignity as cold-heartedness? Why is it that when it comes to Aishwarya Rai, many of us have such a double standard? Why is it that we continuously put down one of our own when she tries to make it in the west and represent culture? Why is it that when she appeared on Letterman, rather than lauding her, many made fun of her accent? Don't all of us have one? What would we rather have: Aish speaking in a very Mumbaiya accent or Aish trying to emulate the Western dialect? Why is it that no matter what this woman does, some people just can't stop criticizing her? She broke up with Salman Khan because he abused her and beat her and this makes her a selfish person? Since when is looking out for yourself being selfish? Many of us saw her bruised and battered at the Filmfare award ceremony and yet we still ignore what is smack dab in front of our eyes. How is Aish responsible for the failing career of Vivek Oberoi when the man does bad films such as Home Delivery? All such allegations are pathetic and fabricated by the media who has nothing better to do but pick on her. How come no hoopla was made when Sushmita Sen dated a married man and yet, time and tiem again, Aish is bashed for no rhyme or reason? And all this brings me to the current issue: Aish's supposed relationship with Abhishek Bachchan. Regardless of whether it's true or not, people have no right to say that she is with Abhishek for her own selfish means. Not only that, but the media has also dragged in the Bachchans by printing utter non-sense about them repeatedly. Whether Aish is good for Abhishek or vice versa, the media should first check the facts because it doesn't suit leading dailies to print such crap when other events deserve more importance. I, for one, hope that it works out for them but await the official announcement. Till then, I suggest that people find something better to do that malign Aish or anyone who is associated with her. Born beautiful and shunned by destiny, Aishwarya Rai is nothing but misunderstood by the public and her contemporaries alike. |
