At this point of his career, Shahid Kapur is more interested in proving himself as an actor rather than a star. For starters, he has already worked out a new look for 36 China Town. Shahid says that his new look was not because other actors were part of the film. "When I heard the script, I genuinely felt that my character, which is that of a struggling actor trying to make it big in the city, needed a different look," he said. But did playing wannabe actor in the film come easily to him? "I am a simple person and so is the character I play in the film. In fact, I always find some part of me in the all the roles that I have played so far. But unlike my character in 36 China Town, I don't wear loud clothes. Also, I have tried to keep my hair long to look different," he says.
Sabina Khan is Shahid's designer and she suggested the look. "She does say what is best for me. But I keep the character sketch in mind and I also add my inputs," Shahid says. Ask him if it was just a trend for actors to experiment with their looks and Shahid says, "More then a trend, it's a script requirement." What were his expectations from 36 China Town? "I generally don't like to have expectations from any of my films. If the production is good and the film is being made well, it will do well.
Abbas-Mustan are the best in the industry for the genre of the films that they make. It is a very interesting story and I don't think there is any film that is similar to this. And like all Abbas-Mustan films this one too has its own twists and turns. But ultimately, the fate of the film will be decided the day it releases. I hope for the best but I am prepared for the worst," Shahid says philosophically.
