Two of Bollywood's favourite couples Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif and John Abraham-Bipasha Basu seem to be treading rough waters these days. With Salman in jail and John recuperating from his accident, their respective girlfriends are busy providing them with support, moral and otherwise.
Given this situation, director Raj Kanwar and producer Bhushan Kumar have decided to call off the premiere of their forthcoming film Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye. The premiere of the film was slated for today at Cinemax Theatre, but was cancelled at the last minute. This film has Katrina playing the protagonist for the first time, while Bipasha plays a cameo.
When contacted, director Raj Kanwar says, "Yes. We had to cancel the premiere because of Salman. In fact, this morning I called the Cinemax owner and cancelled booking. He is a very dear friend of mine and I know him for 15 years. I can't celebrate when he is going through such a rough phase in his life."
Did Katrina ask him to defer the premiere? "No. There is no doubt that Katrina is disturbed, but she didn't say anything to me. I am sensitive enough to understand that it won't be fair to expect her at the premiere, when the entire family is going through such bad phase," he says. "I have promised Katrina that we all will celebrate once Salman gets bail and returns home. However, she will be accompanying me to the theatres on Friday, just to check out audience reaction."
Previously, Kanwar has worked with Salman Khan in three films, Jeet, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. The director seems disturbed about Salman being in jail and says, "I don't know why he didn't get bail, he should have got it within 48 hours. I had planned the premiere thinking that Salman would be free by then to attend the show."
Did he incur financial loss due to the cancellation? "Yes, but that's nothing, given my friendship with Salman. This is not the time to count my loses, but rather to stand beside Salman and pray for him," he replies.
