PREDICTION FOR 'MAUSAM'

Four Seasons.

Four Colors.

Four different age groups of the lead protagonists.

Four true historical events.

This is what constitutes Pankaj Kapur's directorial debut ' Mausam.

But will the audiences 'shower' their love (and also money) on the film this week ?

Our in-house expert and noted astro-numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi predicts the fate of this mature love story:

"The title 'MAUSAM' adds up to Number 19 ' this octave of Number 1 is an extremely fortunate and favorable number. It is symbolized as "the Sun" and promises happiness, success, esteem and honor. A very lucky number for future events" explains Bhavikk.

"Plus the year 2011 which adds up to Number 4 (Rahu) is supporting most people, places or names adding up to Numbers 1, 2, 4 or 7 and 'Mausam' fits the bill directly here as well and that's a bonus".

He continues "Add to that, the father-son duo Shahid Kapoor (25th Febraury 1981) who running in his 31st year (4) and Pankaj Kapur (29th May 1954) in his 58th year (4) also come under this bracket and that will prove be an added advantage".

"Quite obvious but still, expect praises galore for Shahid's portrayal of four different characters/looks and Pankaj's skilled craftsmanship as a first time director" predicts Bhavikk.

"Not to be left behind, Sonam Kapoor (9th June 1985) in her 27th year will deliver a likeable performance. Currently the Sun is in the zodiac sign of Virgo (23rd August ' 22nd September) which is primarily ruled by Number 5 (Mercury). Being a Gemini, she is also ruled by the same number and so she will also be liked by everyone".

"All in all, this 'mausam' will be long lasting" signs off Bhavikk on a positive note.

Like I predicted for Singham that it will do 80cr-100cr, let me stick out my neck and say Mausam will do the same. Like in case of Singham, let me give my reasons:

1. It is not playing safe. A full-on love story in times of masala actioners and frothy rom-coms
2. Now when is going against the stream good strategy. When the audience has its fill of water from that stream. Ghajini, Wanted, Dabbang, Singham, Bodyguard.. that's quite enough. I am not saying another actioner will not do well ( I actually fel even Force will do will, because Nishikant Kamat wil add a fresh touch to the basically good material.) , but that something fresher will find wide acceptance.
3. Films like Bodyguard and MBKD have run out of steam, giving Musam the chance to realize its full potential.
4. It's going all out , with full commitment to the genre, like Delly Belly did with its genre and unlike Ra One which is trying to play it too safe. " Barish rukne se pehle ye bataa do, ki main jeeon, ya ( pause) mar jaaoon". Grat gumption. And Shahid manages to deliver it with charm and conviction.
5. Rabba Main Mar Gay is s great song to propel the film forward.
6. It's been ages since anyone in Bolywood has tried to tell great love story. Love in the time of cholera, communal riots, shipwreck.. they always work big time. Which was the last such Bollywood film. Bombay maybe. Mughal-e-Azam before that.) HDDCS to some extent. Devdas a failed attempt.. ( Without the epic backdrop, Sadma would count. A poignant love story against an epic backdrop The audience hasn't seen one in a long time. Veer Zaara. Yes. But not great enough. ( AS an aside, surprising that even Shahrukh with his long list of romantic films, does not have one truly great love story, that's touching and poignant. Veeer Zaara is the closest. Frothy stuff like DDLJ or KKHH don't count. I am talking of a Casablanca or Titanic..at both ends of era and styling. )
7. Pankaj Kappor as an outsider , with his roots in theater, may pull it off, giving us something that is not assembly-line, something not plastic, something not inspired by Hollywood.
8. One caveat, when you are going against the stream, the product has to be outstanding, uncompromisingly perfect ( a la Delhi Belly.). Just being good or in any way half-baked will not be good enough. ( example Halla Bol, Rocket Singh.)
9. So at this stage, until I have actually seen the film, let me peg it at 70-80 cr.
( Can you list your all-time great Bollywood love stories that are poignant t and touching.)

Q. Can you tell me what will be the final investments on Mausam and Rockstar?
A. Mausam will have a landing cost of around 60 crore while Rockstar will have a landing cost of 75 crore.

S Sahe

Q. How will Mausam open at the box office and what will be the weekend collection be?
A. These type of romances depend on word of mouth. Mausam is likely to have a 6 crore first day and then the target will be to get around 40 crore in the week on good word of mouth.

B Gadhvi

Not a very good prediction by BOI...

Mausam Pre Release Prediction - Gautam Batra

Mausam is an upcoming Hindi Romantic film. The movie stars Shahid Kapur & Sonam Kapoor in the lead and is directed & written by first time director Pankaj under the Vistaar Religare Film Fund banner. The film was earlier set to release on 22nd July but was then postponed to 16th Sept. But again due to some issues with IAF the film postponed & is now set to release on 23rd Sept 2011.

Lets start with the prediction...

1. Since the movie is announced, it has generated a lot of excitement in the audience because it promises to be a movie differnet from the regualr Romantic flicks.
2. The promos & music have added to the excitement. Rabba is already a blockbuster and Ik Tu Hi, Saj Dhaj Ke also have got an excellent response.

3. It has got enough time to generate buzz due to postponement of the release date two times.

4. Also there are lot of expectations due to the father-son jodi (Pankaj Kapur - Shahid Kapur) coming first time together with this movie.

5. Last but not the least the movie has a target audience youth which is surely looking forward to it and if youth comes for a movie strong business is ensured. Also it is a family movie.

Overall Mausam will have a good opening day & will surely be the biggest opener ever of Shahid Kapur. I expect the opening day of 6.5-7.5 crore nett.

Disclaimer: The prediction is my own idea and accurate to best of my knowlege about the movies. Boxoffice result can be some times different due to the uncertainity.

Box Office Prediction: Mausam

With rain gushing down in almost every corner of India, it is the season of love when everyone started falling in love with the rain as it brings some sigh of relief from this hot and sultry weather. And to celebrate this season, director Pankaj Kapoor has opted for the right 'mausam' for his filmMausam's (a timeless love story) release. It is scheduled to be released on September 23, 2011.

Mausam is a sweet love story between a Punjabi Air Force Officer, Harry (Shahid Kapur) and an innocent Kashmiri refugee Aayat, (Sonam Kapoor) in times of political and religious tensions. Their love transcends beyond boundaries, beyond romance with love growing ever strong from season to season.

The first season is about attraction between the two, the second season about developing into young love, the third about separation wherein they realise the depth in their love and in the fourth season after sacrificing a lot, they finally get back together. It's a journey of love in its purest form.

So, how will this movie fare at the box-office? Let's find out!

Sonam Kapoor, born on June 9, 1985 is a Gemini and her ruling number is 9. A very talented and hard working Sonam has the planet Mercury in her favour which suggests that projects will move ahead at a good pace and will be fairly successful. This year she will be making many right choices and will come up with something great that will impress just about everyone.

Shahid Kapur (February 25, 1981) is a Piscean with 7 as his ruling number. Jupiter is placed in the 12th House of his birth chart which indicates that he will find luck, good fortune for his work. Inspiration and support will come his way. He has complete faith and surrendered himself to this film which will definitely pay off at the end.

Mausam will draw a lot of cinegoers to the theatres, thanks to the pairing of Shahid Kapur and Sonam Kapoor, who are coming together for the first time. Of late, Bollywood has not come up with a pure love story. So, Mausam has a very good chance to make up for it. It may not be an epic love story but the film will find its takers and will do good business at the box office.

Film Trac

All About Mausam

by Box Office India (September 10, 2011)
Mausam is the other movie scheduled for release in September that has shown traction with its FTI estimated to be 38 next Friday. This estimate is based on the FTI as on September 9, projected to next Friday, is based on its trends. The FTI on next Friday will give a more accurate picture. Mining the FilmTrac data of Mausam we find that the interest to watch the film comes largely because of Sonam Kapoor. However, Shahid Kapoor does not throw an equal weight in pulling the audience. We did encounter such a result in Dabangg earlier when Sonakshi Sinha scored a little more than Salman Khan in pulling the audience to the theatre. But Dabangg had a potent mix of Salman Khan in a police uniform, Malaika's Munni sequence and some catchy music. This is not the case with Mausam. In this film the audience is expecting a good sentimental, romantic interlude to the comedy that has been dominating the box office. A further analysis of the FilmTrac data shows that people who want to watch the movie, the Definitely Plan to See measure, is low compared to the audience who want to watch the movie during the first weekend (DPSOWE). Hence the film has chances of quickly losing its audience if the film carries a poor word-of-mouth after release on next Friday. In my estimate the FTI looks good but the movie can be shaky after the first day.

With the FTI derived from FilmTrac we expect MBKD to open with ' 20-24 crore during the opening weekend and it should end up with with ' 35-42 crore during the first week. Since the FilmTrac data shows that Mausam is heavily dependent on a high percentage of 'urgency to watch' among those who 'definitely want to watch' we estimate Mausam to open on Friday with ' 8-12 crore and if the film's word of mouth is poor it will collapse to ' 16-18 crore the first week. Otherwise it can easily get a first weekend of ' 30-35 crore and the first week of ' 50 crore. This film is heavily dependent on the opening day's word-of-mouth and hence collection forecasts from the FilmTrac are conditional.

Power Of The Promo ' Mausam

by By Foresight Analytics (September 17, 2011)

Mausam was to be released yesterday but it has been pushed forward by a week and is now scheduled for release on Sep 23. The reasons for pushing the date are the issue of NoC from the Indian Air Force and a delay in the certificate from the censors. It is quite surprising the logistics of getting these certificates in time for the film's release were not managed effectively. A delay in the scheduled dates of a movie means an increase in its costs of promotion.

I had mentioned earlier that the Power of Promo (PoP) of Mausam has been estimated by us to be around 37.0 and hence the promo scores just about average on a scale of 1-100. The theatrical promo scores low on a number of parameters. For a theatrical promo to be effective the answers to the following three questions should be convincing. The questions are:

What is the story of this film? What emotional needs will the film satisfy?

Why should the audience spend time and money on this film? Most theatricals do not convincingly answer these three questions and hence score low on PoP. The theatrical of Mausam answers the first two questions reasonably well but does not give a strong enough answer to the third question: Why should the audience spend time and money on this film? That's why the FilmTrac indicates that the film has a very large proportion of people who want to watch the movie during the first weekend.

But this high proportion is not supported by a large number of people who want to see the film and hence the film's fate will largely depend on the opening day and not the opening weekend.

A little more mining of the data throws up the other aspects of the film conveyed through the theatrical trailer. The film's main driver is Shahid Kapoor, the lead actor, followed closely by Sonam Kapoor. The driver trends follow that of successful movies. The genre of the movie, which largely determines what all people expect, is dispersed with action and romance dominating the perception followed by adventure and suspense. The audience does not understand the term 'genre' but it indicates what all they expect to see in the film. Will the film be able to deliver on all the four expectations? The audience will determine this on Friday next week.

Rivaaz released yesterday. We estimated the PoP of the theatrical trailer of Rivaaz to be around 27, which is well below average. The FTI is around 4.0 and hence film will be able to nett a little less than a crore during the first week.

Most of the other films scheduled for release in Sep will not be able to make a significant impression. Force has picked up some traction but not enough to make it in to a significant player.
