JODHPUR: Bollywood actor Salman Khan was on Monday sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and sent to Central Jail here by a local court in connection with black buck poaching case.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Brijendra Kumar Jain also imposed Rs 25,000 fine on Salman, who was taken into custody and sent to the jail.

Seven other accused, including comedian Satish Shah, were acquitted in this case.

In other cases, actors Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Tabbu and Sonali Bendre are co-accused.

The CJM, who heard the defence counsel's argument on March 28, had fixed April 10 for the judgement.

The court had on April 7 rejected Salman's application to summon a witness, Harish Dulani, who was missing the court appearances for many years.

Dulani was said to be the main witness in the poaching case and reportedly retracted his earlier statement that he had seen Salman killing the animal.

Jaipur (JPN\Bureau): The case against Bollywood stars Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre in connection with black buck poaching is pending in the Rajasthan High Court. Salman is also facing trial pertaining to keeping illegal arms. This is preventing lower courts to proceed with the hearings against the accused.

An important file pertaining to the killing of two chinkaras in Bhavad village during the shooting of Hum Saath Saat Hain is also subjudiced with the high court. This is the reason why no decision has yet been taken by the Jodhpur's session court on Salman Khan's appeal. He has not been able to appear in the court owing to his busy schedule.

Since Salman Khan filed an appeal in the session's court against the verdict in the Bhavad hunting incident announced five years back, he has not appeared before the court even for once.

Salman was awarded 1-year imprisonment by a Chief Judicial Magistrate on 17 February 2006 following which he filed an appeal against the conviction. After spending 71 hours in Jail, He was released on bail and his verdict was postponed on the grounds that he would appear before the session's court during the hearings.

Jodhpur: The Rajasthan High Court on Friday deferred till August 8 the black buck case hearing involving Bollywood actors Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Tabu after defence lawyers sought time.

Counsel RL Jhangid and Mahipal Bishnoyi appeared before the court of Justice RS Chauhan from government's side. Advocate Hastimal Saraswat represented Salman Khan and other actors.

Superstar Salman Khan alongwith other co-stars had allegedly hunted two black bucks on September 27, 1998 while shooting for the movie titled "Hum Saath Saath Hain".

On 17 February, 2006, the court of the chief judicial magistrate sentenced Salman Khan to one-year imprisonment. Salman appealed against the verdict in the Sessions Court. The state government had filed an appeal in the High Court stating the sentence was inadequate.
