Art was relaxation for Husain saab: Madhuri

TNN | Jun 9, 2011, 02.35pm IST
MF Husain
Actress Madhuri Dixit was MF Husain's first muse. According to him, she wasn't only a pretty picture, but also a complete actor. Her dance movements enarmoured him - the batting of her eyelids, the grace in her movement, and the magic of her smile. MF Husain defined the her as the 'quintessence of womanhood!'

However, the actress lost touch with 'Husain saab'. When she had come to India last, she had said, "He's always in the quest to learn, and can't be in one place. He's a traveller. Unfortunately, I'm not in touch with him."

However, the actress had some wonderful things to say about the contemparay painter when she was shooting for his movie 'Gaja Gamini'. She narrated how she had witnessed MF Husain paint for hours on end. "He is a perfectionist," she had said, "And knew exactly what he wanted. We all used to ask him to relax sometimes. But all he said was that painting was his relaxation. If he wished to relax, all he had to do was pick up the brush."

When Madhuri Dixit made her comeback to Hindi cinema with Aaja Nachle, MF Husain had booked an entire theatre just to watch her and pay tribute to her in his own way. Her reaction to this at that time was a simple and humble, "It's flattering!"

MF Husain left for his heavenly abode on June 9, 2011 at 2:30 a.m. in a London hospital. He suffered a cardiac arrest.

We should be ashamed Hussain saab!

MF Hussain
Bollywood celebrities, authors, musicians, journalists and columnists mourn the death of renowned Indian painter Maqbool Fida Hussain, who lived the last five years of his life in exile. He died of heart attack in London on Thursday morning. He was 95 .

Rahul Bose (actor)
Hussain passes away. We hang our heads partly in grief & partly in shame for not being able to let him spend his last days in this country.

Barkha Dutt (journalist)
"India will live in my heart. If I were forty I would have fought them tooth and nail" said MF Hussain to me explaining why he was compelled to give up citizenship. We owe him so much. Such shame that an artist who put India on the global stage spent his last years in exile.

Alvida Hussain saheb. Your not being able to return to India is our countrys abiding shame. RIP Atleast in his death, give Husain a sense of home. I hope the UPA government that could not create conditions for Hussains safe return will have the grace to mourn him in death.

Vivek Agnihotri (filmmaker)
People who are cracking jokes on MF Hussein need forgiveness for they know nothing about arts and the artist.

Suresh Menon (comedian)
How sad, a great painter like MF passes away in London and terrorist still lives in an Indian jail with our government spending a bomb to keep him alive!

Taslima Nasreen (author)
M.F.Hussain could not spend his last days in his motherland! Cry, the beloved country.

Sophie Choudry (actor)
May your soul RIP far away from the insanities of this cruel world & may the sky become your new canvas. Thank you for your beautiful art.

Pooja Bedi (socialite, Tv anchor)
I'm deeply saddened that one of India's greatest artists MF Hussain died & even more saddened fanaticism kept him away from India till death.

So sad to have passed away not in a country he called his own, I hope whatever lies out there after death will only greet him with peace and familiarity.

I hope his soul finds some peace...

Having said that, I don't understand some of the comments made by the so called celebrities...

M.F.Hussain asked for it when he deliberately tweaked the Hindu God images by presenting them in obscene manner and at the end of it feigned innocence calling it all his creative brilliance...

My Muslim friends should especially know what I mean, from their experience of the wrongly depicted Prophet Mohammad pictures...

R.I.P M.F. Hussain! Didn't know too much about the controversy but find it extremely pathetic and its unfortunate that he couldn't even die in the country that he wanted to die in. I find it extremely weird how when a person is alive and they did something wrong they're criticized for life, but as soon as they pass away everyone suddenly acts like they love and miss them?! Why can't people forgive while that person is alive? May Allah Grant him Jannat! Ameen.
