Mumbai: Despite being a director himself, Anurag Kashyap says that he never meddles with the working of a director whose film he is producing.

"I, as a director, have always wanted a producer who lets me be. So when I am a producer, I try to be that, because I understand. So I leave the person alone and I don't disturb my director, just because I'm the producer of the film," Kashyap told.

Kashyap has produced films like "Aamir", "Udaan" and now the upcoming "Shaitan".

I will always back 'people with potential'- Anurag Kashyap

?
Mumbai- Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap states that talented filmmakers in B-town are found in abundance but their talents get wasted as producers are busy running after big names.

The film industry judges a filmmaker by his/her previous work. They are judged by their earlier box office records and as a result the film industry is going through such a bad time.

Kashyap states that he loves to nurture people and will always back people who he thinks have the potential. Anurag Kashyap has worked as a producer with many newcomers such as Vikramaditya Motwane in "Udhaan" and Bijoy Nambiar in "Shaitan".

He considers himself lucky to get an opportunity to produce a film like "Shaitan" and feels sorry as to how unfortunate the entire film industry is in not recognizing a brilliant talent like that of Bjijoy Nambiar.

He added that he did not think twice to do "Shaitan". "Udhaan" bagged numerous awards and was also screened at the 2010 Cannes International Film Festival.

"Udhaan" was the first Indian film in the last 7 years to have represented India in the official section of the prestigious fest.

Talking about "Shaitan", he stated that the story of the film revolves around five rich kids. The film stars Rajeev Khandelwal and Kalki Koechlin in the lead pair.

He also stated that like "Udhaan", "Shaitan" too is likely to create magic at the box-office.

Shaitan is the most thrilling films of recent times- Anurag Kashyap

?

Anurag Kashyap is gearing up for his upcoming production "Shaitan" starring Rajeev Khandelwal
and Kashyap's girl friend Kalki Koechlin in the lead pair. He refers to the film as an exciting thriller which deals with the rebellious attitude of the younger generation living in big cities.

The story is based on a one night incident where youths get drunk, resulting in twists in events. Shaitan beautifully showcases that there is a devil present in each one of us.

This film is a directorial debut of Bejoy Nambiar who had worked as an assistant director with filmmaker Mani Ratnam in "Guru" and "Raavan", states Kashyap.

Kashyap is very excited with the film and considers it to be the most stlylish, exciting and coolest thrillers that he has seen in a long time. He considers himself lucky to get an opportunity to produce such a film.

He had earlier worked with a new comer Vikramaditya Motwane in Udhaan which bagged numerous awards and had also been screened at the 2010 Cannes International Film Festival.

In the last 7 years, Udhaan is the first film that represented India at the prestigious fest. Like his previous film Udhaan, Kashyap has full hope that his upcoming film Shaitan too will be a box-office success.

Industry wastes talent chasing stars: Kashyap
April 27, 2011 2:30:06 PM

PTI | New Delhi

Having gone through the drill, Anurag Kashyap recognises an angry young filmmaker by sight and the director says he has turned producer to encourage such talent in a star-driven industry.

After Vikramaditya Motwane's 'Udaan', Anurag has turned producer for Bijoy Nambiar's debut 'Shaitaan'.

Anurag says he is often reminded of his days of struggle when he witnesses the frustration of the young filmmakers as they struggle to do good cinema.

Nambiar, who assisted Mani Ratnam in 'Guru', was struggling to get the film financed for sometime and when Anurag saw no progress happening, he decided to step in.

"Bijoy had the script and wanted to make a film. I knew about it because Kalki was acting in it. After trying some places, he asked me, 'Will you do it?' and I said, 'Anytime.'," Anurag told PTI.

The director, who struggled to get his first two films --'Black Friday' and 'Paanch'-- released feels that a lot of talent is being wasted because producers are busy chasing stars.

"These are strong minded filmmakers, who know what they want to do and the industry, which likes you to behave like a coward, feels intimidated by them. People used to call me mad because I knew what I wanted to do. Bijoy is the same. Similarly, Vikram knew his craft so well that people were like 'how can a first timer talk like that," says Anurag, who is readying to release back-to-back films this year.

"But we have to understand that these are not ordinary newcomers. They are really extraordinary filmmakers. There is lot of talent and I wish I could do more but I am trying to do my bit," he adds.

Anurag, 38, describes 'Shaitan' as "a relentless thriller".

"'Shaitan' is about five rich kids. They have access to money , are from affluent backgrounds and what a drunken night leads to. Shaitan beautifully showcases that there is a devil present in each one of us😛😛 . It is a relentless thriller," says the producer.😃😃

Slated for a June release, the film stars Rajeev Khandelwal and Kalki Koechlin.

I saw the trailer yesterday when I saw DMD in cinema.

The trailer looks dark, fun, violent and very edgy. I love movies like that.

Speaking of which I recently saw an American movie 'Brotherhood' which has some similarities.

It's a small movie starring some part time actors. It was a fantastic watch and I would strongly recommend it.

April 28, 2011, (Sawf News) - Kalki Korchlin used dark and morbid music to get under the skin of her character as a spoilt brat in her forthcoming film Shaitan, being directed by Bejoy Nambiar.

The 28-year-old Indian actress of French descent got rid of her current play list on her iPod prior to filming and replaced it with gloomy goth music.

"Kalki plays the role of Amy – a spoilt rich girl and to get into character she'd keep listening to these gloomy goth songs right until she finished shooting and dubbing for the film. She is very excited about the film and is quite a perfectionist herself," reveals a source close to the actress.

Produced by Anurag Kashyap and co-produced by Tipping Point Films, Shaitan is the first of its kind film on teenage angst and the rebellious attitudes of youth in metropolitan cities, where one night of drunken partying leads to twists in events. The target audience of the film is urban youth.

The film additionally stars Rajeev Khandelwal, Neil Bhoopalam (LSD fame), Shiv Pandit, Kirti Kulhari and Gulshan Devaiah.

Shaitan is scheduled for a June 10 release.
