@ eraser: Desi culture is messed up with people having so many diff beliefs..😆... in US and Canada.. people call each other by their first name.. no matter what their age is.. some desis have adapted to that.. some haven't... in workplace.. when i have worked with desi women..who are older than me.. then i have always called them by their first name.. strangers of any age get pissed off.. if they are referred to as aunties or uncles..

I know eh! My parents would kill me if I'd go up to one of their friends and call them by their first name. They hate how I talk to my Caucasian neighbours, friends' parents, profs etc etc using their first name.

I call people by name. If they are four or five years older, they like it this way. But older people have problems.

My sister is 3 years older and she gives me death stares if i don't call her didi 😕..my mom makes fun of her and says I should call her Ummaji to be on the safe side 😆

I call all my cousins who are in their late 20's and 30's Bhaijan or Baji (meaning sister)

I only call desi people who are much older than me.. aunty or uncle.. if i have known them for a long long time.. otherwise not.. and you cannot call goras aunty or uncle.. anyways.. they would go like W*F did you just say... 😆

I have my mum sister's who I call Maasi and my uncles's Mama or Chacha and Chachi lol....I have uncles from my dad's side as well saying Bua or Tayaa (meaning big uncle)

I dont call anyone chacha maasi or taya..my brother and I have weird names for everyone, basically we just put together a few giberish syllables and voila, we have a name for some one. For example
