Aamir Khan Keeps
Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukerji
out of Mumbai's Red Light Area

Aamir Khan celebrates his 46th birthday

Aamir Khan is shooting Reema Kagti's film, whose working title is Act Of Providence.

The film requires footage of a red-light area and initial plans were to shoot in a real red-light area.

However, it is being debated whether it would be practical for the team - consisting Aamir, Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor - to shoot in real locations known to be a security hazard.

"So far, whatever has been shot, the director and the actors have made sure it would be done on an authentic location," said a spokesperson. "So, I guess the portions to come too would opt for authenticity."

After much deliberation, it has been decided that Kagti's murder mystery, set in a red-light area, won't be shot in an actual red-light area.

Kagti confirmed there will be no shooting in an actual red-light area.

Though they felt the feel and authenticity - the congested sexual politics of a red-light area - could not be captured on a set, full security to ensure the protection of the stars while shooting in such the volatile locations is impossible.

Authenticity has its limits.

What exactly is a "red light area?"

Either way safety of the stars is far more important than anything else. So yes, good decision.

Looking forward to this movie! :-)

if they were planning to shoot in kamatipura, it is a good decision NOT to..

the last documentary i saw on kamatipura was pretty harsh on its current situation.

dangerous and too sad a location

Kamathipura (also spelled Kamthipura) (Marathi: ??????????) is Mumbai's oldest and the world's largest[citation needed] red-light district. The area was set up by the British for their troops, which acted as their official "comfort zone". This small region boasted the most exotic consorts. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, a large number of women and girls from continental Europe and Japan were trafficked into Kamathipura, where they worked as prostitutes servicing both British soldiers and local Indian men. When the British left India, the Indian sex workers took over. In recent decades, large numbers of Nepalese women and girls have also been trafficked into the district as sex workers.

Today, it is said that there are so many brothels in the area, that there is no space for the sex workers to sit in. They hang around in the streets, solicit customers and then rent an available bed.

yep every big city has its red light nook

the most notorious ones Ive heard of are kamatipura(bombay) and sonagachi(calcutta).... india's bulk of child trafficking finds its way there apart from bangladeshi women who are promised work as maids..the worst part is that there are women who have been sold by their husbands into the area

Three good actors still this film appears dull.

BTW, do watch Zana Briski's Academy award winning documentary film 'Born into Brothels' about the children of prostitutes in Sonagachi (red-light district in Kolkata).

^ Eraser: I saw it on IFC. You can check that channel for some finest documentaries and films.

You know what hurts more? When nothing comes out of it.
"When Preeti Mukherjee was 15, she attended the Oscars for her participation in Zana Briski's documentary Born Into Brothels. Today, she's a sex worker in the same red-light district Briski tried to help her escape.
