| Sharing a Joke: (L-R) Lata Sabharwal, Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapur | Lata Sabharwal, who plays Shalini — one of the Mittal sisters in SaharaOne's Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki — has made forays onto the big screen, with Rajshri's Vivaah. The actress will play the role of Bhavna, Shahid Kapur's bhabhi in the film.
"It's a dream come true for me to work in a Rajshri film," said Lata, who has acted on the small screen for the last six years. My time has come
"I have done many shows and played different characters. But I don't think I got the break I deserved — until now. My role in the film is that of a positive character, and has various shades to it. Like every other Rajshri film, each character in Vivaah is unique."
Lata's most memorable moment in Vivaah was when her small-screen sisters, Reena Kapoor (Rani), Komal Mahuvakar (Sheetal) and Ritu Cambow (Komal) came over to see her as Bhavna. | Crossover: Lata Sabharwal | TV sisters
"It was a very emotional moment," confesses Lata. "We have been playing the role for so long, that it felt as though my real sisters had come to meet me."
Interestingly, Alok Nath, who plays her dad on TV, is also in Vivaah. "When I saw him on the set, I instantly called him Papa, even though he isn't my father in the film. I have nearly completed shooting my portion of Vivaah." Rajshri experience
On her experience working with Shahid and Amrita Rao, she said, "Both are down to earth and warm. One thing that comes across in any Rajshri production is the family atmosphere on the sets; it doesn't feel like work at all."
Does Lata aim to get the same popularity Renuka Shahane, after her bhabhi turn in Hum Aapke Hai Kaun? "I cannot compare myself to Renuka. She is senior to me and I look up to her. But if I get even half the success she got after doing HAHK, it will be a blessing." |
