Jaya B was a big star when she met AB..he was a nobody..they met, fell in love, and got married. She was very supportive of him and my grandma says after the marriage, his career started looking up..he became one of the leading heroes..Then Rekha showed up..

What I heard was AB and Rekha were madly in love with each other and were going to marry. Hema Malini had just become Dharmendra's 2nd wife. And Rekha was looking forward to a similar arrangement..She even showed up at Rishi Kapoor's and Neetu Singh's wedding with sindoor..

But then AB had his tragic accident on the sets of Coolie and Jaya nursed him back to health..seeing her care, AB just couldn't leave her for Rekha. Jaya knew about the affair, but apparently wouldn't leave because of her kids..

Rekha and him relly did love each other..and clearly she's still not over him. Dunno about AB Sr..

That's the version I heard too. Yeah, I also think she still loves him but how come at the star screen awards when SRK asked about her favourite romantic heros she mentioned every hero from the 70's except AB, she puzzles me sometimes 😕

Affair ka to pata nahi, but Jaya always looks pissed to me. Her waqt uske forehead pe bal hota hai... even when she laughs you can see she doesn't do it often.

Yeah, she's not dumb, is she? The whole world knows and talks about the affair. Imagine her saying "Amitabh Bachchan" when asked such a question; what awkward position would it put her and A. Bachchan in and the whole drama would start anew.

Amitabh, Jaya Bachchan & Rekha ('Triangular Bond')

The sizzling affair between 'Superstar of the Millennium' Amitabh Bachchan and the Bollywood's eternal temptress Rekha remains unparalleled. The affair provided enough material for gossip tabloids to run their business for a few good years - that is not surprising given Rekha's penchant for loving her men with wild abandon. Amitabh of course was not just her devine madness- but also he was the madness of the masses and had a 'basa-basaya ghar' with doting wife Jaya, children and parents. Although, Amitabh reportedly had a soft corner, but he did not require any negative publicity to tarnish his squeaky-clean angry-youngman image. The chemistry between the two was very evident on screen. Their love story began on the sets of 'Do Anjaane' - the second film that they did together. The pair provided hit after hit together - 'Khoon Pasina', 'Ganga Ki Saugandh', 'Suhaag', 'Muqaddar Ka Sikandar', 'Ram Balram' and 'Mr. Natwarlal' amongst others. The on-screen chemistry generated in the many films they made together, led many to suspect that there was a real life romance happening. In an unbeliveable casting coup by Yash Chopra, Rekha appeared alongside both Amitabh and his wife Jaya, in the love triangle that was 'Silsila' (1981)! Yash Chopra's this film was their last film together and it captured the real life Rekha-Amit-Jaya infidelity triangle. This Bollywood movie was based on the life story of Amitabh, who had an affair with Rekha while married to Jaya Bhaduri (Bachchan), daughter of eminent Bengali writer Tarun Bhaduri. At the beginning of the affair, the couple apparently met regularly at a secluded bungalow that belonged to Rekha's friend. It became quite evident that the two were involved when a normally sombre Bachchan roughed up one fellow who heckled her while they were shooting for 'Ganga Ki Saugandh'. People had begun noticing how the pair was spending more and more time together and were trying to shield their affair from the media glare.

Rekha knew she would get the raw deal if Jaya ever found about the affair. She would always be the other woman like her mother had been. There was a lot at stake; especially her fragile ego but she couldn't care less now that she was madly in love. And once she heard of the clandestine Hema-Dharmendra wedding, she hoped for marriage and threw caution to the wind.

Rekha made headlines when she turned up for Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh's wedding wearing sindoor, mangalsutra and two rings on her fingers gifted by her Amit. She captured all the limelight that night - even more than the newly weds did.
Jaya Bachchan may have pursed her lips at such shameless show of bravado but she would not give in without a fight. She suffered in dignity, refusing to bawl her heart out in interviews and in public.
She invited Rekha home for dinner one day. To quote Rekha, 'Jayaji called me for dinner one evening and though we spoke about everything but 'him', before I left that day, she made sure to tell me: 'I will never leave Amit whatever happens!' Sure enough, Jaya kept her word.
Gossip magazines thrived on the affair. Juicy titbits such as the news of Jaya catching the couple at one of their early morning rendezvous and slapping the other woman appeared with amazing regularity in all leading tabloids. Though she refused to acknowledge the affair in public, Jaya said that if Amit were cheating on her, his conscience would eventually get the better of him and straighten him out.

Jaya's words rung true - Amitabh the star and the good husband had to buckle under severe media and family pressure. Around the time that 'Silsila' captured this torrid love affair, the couple split. It was the end of one of the most passionate affairs both on and off screen. The glamour attached to the couple is such that even today when any of the trio is seen in one place, the camera crews never fail to capture their reactions towards one another. While Mr. and Mrs. Bachchan now present the picture of a happy family nurturing their son Abhishek's career, Rekha does about a film a year guarding her private life with amazing severity.

rekha herself was an illegitimate child of a womanising actor....

her dad didnt acknowledge her for a long time..

i heard teji bacchan heavily disapproved of rekha because of her dad

Yeah guess you're right, I suppose if she mentions him it will cause a problem and if she doesn't eyebrows are raised anyways

I don't want to go into "what ifs" since it was a long time ago but good for Jaya for standing her ground and that too without making a scene of it in the media

I think Jaya and AB Sr. are in a loveless marriage now than in the past....she always looks so angry and he seems to be career-minded

Only Abhi, Shweta, and 'hehe' Aishwarya bind them together

I don't think AB and Jaya were bonded together in a loveless marriage....they were very much in love. AB wasn't even that much of a successful actor but Jaya was very popular. I think after marriage he rose to fame and with that came his affair with Rekha.

I would agree that afterall the affair and accident their relationship might have turned bitter (honestly which wife can tolerate all that) and I think it's only for the sake of his kids and his mother they remained married.

I am sure Rekha loved him a lot and still has a soft spot for him and I think AB regrets even getting into relationship with her...I feel it caused him a lot of damage.

I don't recall exactly which award function it was but he got an award for something and he got so emotional on stage and said I am thankfull to my family...Abhi...Shwetha...Jaya etc. I think now when he looks back that affair with Rekha seems meaningless.
