she said that i wanted to wait for the burger---she is looking for substantial roles, and mind u, i wud say rani's role in dil bole hadippa was much more substantial then kareena's role in G3 or 3 idiots!!! she also mentioned that she is out of the stage where she has to say 'yes' to every big film!

^^ You should know that I often use sarcasm to get my point across. 😉

My point is bollywood is a sexist industry. We can accept 45-50 yr old men working in movies even after giving a string of flops and that too in the most stupid meaningless immature roles but when a 30 yr old woman gives a few flops, NOOOOO we want her to retire, to make daal chaawal at home and popping babies every other year.

i sincerely hope that things change, and since rani is very talented i hope that she stays!

ya know why??? the ppl patronizing actors are mostly the female fans (Read gals) and the ppl patronizing heroines are guys (read all college guys and uncles)....so gals like their men to be slightly older, suave and debonair.....while guys like gals to be cutesy, young, frothy, chirpy yet "womanly" and "sexy"....so we dunt mind a saif or a shahrukh.....but they wont take anything older than a kareena or a katrina....

and @bolly007...*begs* plzz can u not bring kareena into every single topic even when its not required....even the slightest mention can turn this topic into a war zone...the disccussion is on rani...so plz focus on that...

and with rani's interview....well lets see how substantial her future roles turn out to be...but she made 2 contradictory statements (saying tht she was like a beggar, and then saying she wanted a burger)...rather confusing.

i can compare her with other actresses, if u guys feel offended i cannot do much, i shud have the liberty to state my opinion freely, she said that actors r like beggers as in that they cannot just say that 'i wanna do this movie' they have to wait for good and substantial roles or just go with the regular run of the mill and i agree with that!

@ smarie pants : 😊 I didn't quite understand what you meant but yes, both guys and girls want actors and actresses to fit the societal norms' anything outside it is not accepted.

About the beggar comment, I dont know what was contradictory because she basically said that she waits for meaty roles to come to her and does not have the power to go on a shopping spree for roles.

But then again, I didnt watch part 2 of the interview cos the sound isnt working on my computer so maybe she contradicted herself later on?😊

lol...all i said was guys like younger woman, and gals like older men...which is why an srk or saif are still sought after, while all actors older to a kareena or katrina are shunned...its just the tastes of the opposite sex....😊

maybe i misinterpreted those statements but to me it seemed like she said she wasn't really getting many roles hence, she had to wait and couldn't really have the luxury to choose...and on the other hand she said that she refused plum offers because she felt her role wasn't interesting enough....either way...i guess its my mistake in interpretation coz i fastforwared a lot throughout the interview...

but a question...is her muvie with aamir and bebo a thriller??? i read it was sum romantic crap..? lol...im way more excited for the muvie if its a thriller..😛

I just saw it but I bypassed the comments😆

I like how she was emphasizing that she needs comprehensive meaningful roles but if so, why did she stick to meager roles for the past few years? I believe she only recently realized her folly and deftly "bowed" out of the rat race to do more "meaningful cinema" as a way to re-market herself. I don't blame her, because this industry is based on appearance and Masand even said that she is one of the few who can ACT.

I wish she talked about other things too, it seemed as though she was emphasizing her reasons why she's at her position now the entire duration of the interview. I also think she did the same thing with her interview with him for Dil Bole Hadippa.

I don't care if she's not front page material anymore and is not a prime endorser for such and such. I just want to see her in films, preferably of the non-running around a tree type, because with her, I can at least see the true value of acting by an actress

isn't it how the industry works, though... rani wasn't exactly the only actress of a decent caliber of her times... and when she took over at her prime, she also replaced her contemporaries before her... it's just how the cycle works...
hate it, but our industry is like this... aur humaare chahne ya na chahne se kya hota hai.... producers and directors put their money where they know they'll be getting their investments back... and unfortunately, none of the actresses can gaurantee a hit... while most of the 40-45 year old men can... hence, they still have a thriving career, while the women are out of the running....! simple as that... doubt things will change much....!!
and this is precisely why, despite being a madhuri fan, i do not want her to do stupid movies.... she has had a wonderful career with some great movies and awesome roles... unless she can go the raakhee way, who had awesome roles even as a mother, i don't want her to waste time in worthless movies...!! selfish fan, perhaps i am... i don't want my favs to make a mockery out of themselves...!!
it's quite obvious rani wasn't exatly getting the best roles... most of her movies were with YRF only... or with friends (slb)... nobody is honest enough as anil to say he did not do any endorsements, because there were no offers... yahan per to whoever isn't doing any movies, are busy 'reading scripts'...! 😛😛😛
