I went to see Action Replay with my mother, who happens to be an Akshay fan 😆 and we enjoyed the film! Akshay was such a dodo and I liked it :P Ash looked A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! And I enjoyed her chemistry with Akshay. The guy that played their son (shoot, forgot his real name!) was cute. Overall, I found the film quite entertaining and a good laugh :)

Okay, so I watched AR last night, right before I watched G3.

It was strictly okay-ish. I mean, I expected alot more . Since it's first trailer, I've been excited for this one. I guess the main downside of this movie was it's weak script. At times it really got dragging and I had to look at my watch to see how much more time is left for the movie to end. But I'll be honest...I was looking forward to this movie mainly b/c I'm a fan of Aishwariya Rai...and the Zor Ka Jhatka song. 😆 She did look gorgeous but unfortunately, yeh film mein acting itni achi nahin thi. Akshay Kumar was annoying in this movie, in my POV.

WHY was Neha Dhupia even in it? She had like what....2-3 lines? I don't even remember how she contributed to the storyline.

The dude with the afro!!!! Aditya Roy Kapoor? Yeah, I think I have a crush on him after watching this movie. 😆 He was soooo good as Bunty and probably my favorite character.

So basically, it was sort of disappointing but not really as bad as some reviews are making it out to be.

😭 I am not very happy with the way Vipul Shah directed Action Replayy. The direction was very mediocre. I am sad for Aish that this movie will not benefit her commercially. I am happy in the fact that she did look gorgeous in the songs and made the role with the best she could do. Her chemistry with Akshay was not impressive in this movie.

Action Replayy's retro fun falls flat

By Itrath Syed, November 8, 2010

Starring Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Aditya Roy Kapoor. Rated PG. Now playing

In a plot borrowed from Back to the Future , Vipul Amrutlal Shah's Action Replayy promises us a fun romp through an iconic decade of the past: the 1970s. Bollywood in that era was indeed a riot and has been the premise of a few good retro films. This is not one of them.

Watch the trailer for Action Replayy.

Kishen (Akshay Kumar) is middle-aged and unhappily married to Mala (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan). Even at their 35th anniversary party they make a scene with their arguing. Their son, Bunty (Aditya Roy Kapoor), whose own fear of commitment stems from a frontline view of their misery, vows to go back in time and turn their arranged marriage into a love marriage.

Conveniently, his girlfriend's uncle is a mad scientist with a homemade time machine that can help him give his parents a do-over.

In the '70s, Kishen is an awkward, bullied geek with bad teeth. The young Mala is strong, fiesty, and suffers no fools. Sadly, Bunty's plan involves him turning his father into a player and his mother into a tamed shadow of herself. Bunty's main obstacle is the requisite neighbourhood bully (Rannvijay Singh) who humiliates Kishen and tries to romance Mala.

This is familiar ground, but entirely without warmth. There is nothing to make us root for this couple or their unimaginative son. The allusions to the pop culture and politics of the period fall flat, and the particularities of the streets of '70s Bombay appear to have been added on with a child's felt pen. The fashions are fun, but work much better for the women than the men. The score does contain a few catchy retro-inspired numbers like "Chhan Ke Mohalla", "Zor Ka Jhatka", and the melodic "O Bekhabar", but they will be more enjoyable on iTunes than in this film.

'Action Replayy' disappoints at box office
Action Replayy's first weekend collection goes like this: Rs 2.75 crore on Friday, Rs 8 crore on Saturday, and Rs 6 crore on Sunday. However, the movie's Monday business was relatively poor. After a bad opening, the movie couldn't really take off and to add to the woes of the makers, the movie is not well-accepted by the viewers and critics alike.
so now its sure tht this movie can be anything but a 'hit'lolz

i just watched action replay on dvd, and my feedbak is the movie is time pass and ok, it is not as bad as sum peeps r making it out to be, the screenplay is not good at all, but the acting is good, the songs, the costumes are good, and aish looks really pretty! i also liked aditya kapoor and ranvijay, it was ok, i will give this movie around 2.7/5, BUT MAN whenenever AKSHAY said 'AWAAZ NEECHE' i cracked up soo bad!😆 i also enjoyed aish's dance on khoyla! it was fun, but it is not worth to spend a lot of money to watch it in the cinemas unless u r bored!

Golmaal 3 big hit, Action Replayy gets dull response

From the big clash at the box-office of two star-studded entertainers, Golmaal 3 has taken a lead as compared to Action Replayy. Both the films had a successful legacy behind it.

If Golmaal had already established its brand as a zany comedy from its past two episodes, the combination of Akshay Kumar and Vipul Shah had a 100% success ratio at the box-office with films like Aankhen, Namastey London and Singh is King. While both the films were much anticipated and both were comedies, audiences preferred the madcap humour of Golmaal 3 over the romantic comedy of Action Replayy.

Both films opened on a low note on Friday, the Diwali day when the country was busy with festivities. The films picked up on Saturday but only Golmaal 3 managed to sustain over the weekend. Action Replayy didn't get as much favourable response. The occupancy for Golmaal was around 80-90% while Action Replayy was much low with only 30-40% occupancy.

Golmaal 3 triumphed at the box office with a remarkable opening weekend gross collection of Rs. 60 crores (Net Collection of Rs. 40 crores) in India and Rs. 10 crores overseas. The film opened across 2000 plus screens worldwide.

Commenting on the opening, Nandu Ahuja, Sr. VP, Distribution, Eros International Media Ltd said, "Golmaal 3 opened at 80% - 90% occupancy across the country. Moreover, the long Diwali weekend helped draw in large footfalls in theatres. The film is running packed shows all over India and the current figures strongly indicate that the film is a blockbuster in the making. The feedback received from our distributors and audiences also suggest that there is tremendous repeat viewing factor which will only enhance the performance of the film in the coming weeks."

Pranab Kapadia, President of Distribution, Eros International added, "Golmaal 3 is enjoying a superb response with a fabulous Opening across UK, Australia, Middle East etc".

Ken Naz, President, Eros International, USA added, "Golmaal 3 has taken an excellent opening in USA. The reports have been are extremely encouraging with sold out evening shows in most theatres much in advance."

Action Replayy could manage only around Rs 16 crores which can be considered too low for any Akshay Kumar film.

The coming week has small releases in the form of Jimmy Sheirgill ' Sanjay Suri's horror film 'A Flat' and Saahil Khan ' Khali's 'Rama ' The Saviour'. The Hollywood releases are much bigger in comparison with 'The Social Network' and 'Skyline' releasing this Friday.

That should give another week for Golmaal 3 to fare well at the box-office. Will Action Replayy benefit from the same? Sounds improbable!
Film: Action Replayy

Position: 2

Director: Vipul Shah

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Ranvijay Singh

Upside: Good retro era recreation, interesting plot, decent performances, good music

Downside: Story gets predictable, could have been funnier

Running Week: 1

Trade Comments: Action Replayy opened on a low note and fizzled out by the weekend. Opening weekend collection of Rs 16 crore is not a good figure from an Akshay Kumar film.
