Just days after Shahid Kapur has signed his first film Heer And Ranjha after taking on Mausam (dad Pankaj Kapur's directorial debut), there is news that he will be paired opposite Deepika Padukone. This is the first time that the two are going to act together on screen. The film is directed by Sabir Khan who had earlier made Kambakht Ishq and will be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

Our source said, "The race for the film's leading lady was between Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone. Sabir had earlier worked with Kareena, but when Shahid said yes to the film, the question of Kareena being a part of the film was ruled out. They then thought of Katrina but she has her hands full with current projects and she was unable to allott dates, especially since the film goes on the floors in February as reported. So, Deepika has been signed on for the film with Shahid playing the male lead. The film is a romantic comedy.
