And I don't know how true this is but I've heard from a journalist friend who interviewed Jaya at some point that the relationship between Jaya and Amitabh is still strained and that Rekha and Amitabh's affair isn't exactly over. Again, no idea how true this is but thought I'd pass on the gossip.

Not very surprising - I firmly believe that he is still in touch with her and the whole public attitude is just fake......You can't forget and put aside so easily..But I don't think they're still having an affair..maybe they're unofficial friends..🥱

From what I have heard Yash ji always supported his bahu, coz she was also his friend's daughter. So much so that there was a huge rift between Adi and Yash ji regarding this matter. Alteast Payal chopra didn't have to stay in a loveless marriage with a cheating hubby, she did broke up with him. Who knows what Jaya went through and why she still stayed with him.

So he had an affair after marriage?

I thought he was with Rekha, but then married Jaya. However, he was going to divorce Jaya. Instead, according to some random news articles, when Rekha didn't see him in the hospital during the accident, he dumped her and stayed with Jaya.

Which is true?

Either way, I don't think Jaya should have stayed with him, atleast I wouldn't.

The story I've heard is that he cheated on Jaya. He had an affair with Rekha after he was married and had children (not sure if it continued till then or started around/after then). He was so much in love with Rekha that he was going to divorce Jaya for Rekha but then he had that fatal accident on the sets of Coolie. Jaya nursed him back to health and he realized he couldn't leave his wife for another woman. Rekha also showed up at Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh's wedding wearing sindoor and mangulsutra showing that she was married to Amitabh or atleast believed she was. Also around that time Hema-Dharmendra shocked Bollywood by getting married. Rekha thought that she could become a 2nd wife like Hema. Silsila is supposed to be a representation of Jaya-Amitabh-Rekha's life. It's also AB and Rekha's last movie together.

I don't understand why Jaya stayed with him even today beause she was a strong lady and was way more popular than her husband, who only really became known after he married her. Maybe it was the kids? Or maybe she did not believe in divorces? It's something I still don't understand. It's not a decision I would have made.

The affair is pretty true. They're all so uncomfortable around each other. But somewhere I think Amitabh-Rekha are still in touch.

I don't feel badly for Rekha or Amitabh. It was Jaya who was cheated on, but yet she stayed with him. We don't know what happened behind the scenes. Maybe there were other pressures that forced Jaya to stay with Amitabh. I always wonder how people can move past their spouse's infidelity. I couldn't.

but yet people do- esp our side of the world- affairs are quite common in the higher society

the social pressure is great on celebs- remember the huge fuss when mid day alleged that susanne had waked out on hrithik. not many women can withstand that huge pressure. jaya at the time had both the kids- and the pressure from kids is huge-as is the pressure to keep the family together esp for the woman.

these things are passing affairs and the wives know it- not many would give up the luxuries, status and a well made home and give it to the other woman- esp as jaya did- seen amitabh through the struggling days to give it up when he was a success for rekha to enjoy the good times- what was she mad?

people would be sympathetic to the wife but noone walks the road with her- look at jolie and pitt. aniston lost not just her home but also mutual friends and the public, social circles split down the middle in support. sorry to say but rekha was a bomb in that time and esp men could see why amit couldnt resist- jaya wouldnt have got much sympathy or support and she knew it.

in the real world. the wife has too much to lose

well we don't know how jaya felt at that time, today i m young and independent unmarried woman, so i can say i can't and will never forgive my husband if he cheats on me in future

but who knows what the situation will be if God forbid i will be in that situation, may b at that point of time, jaya stayed due to many logical reasons, my all sympathies goes to Jaya ji for staying with him, She is a nice lady and definitely didn't deserve to go thru that phase of life

i know i have quite the same feelings.im young n unmarried..so righty now i'll think god forbid if smthing happens i won't be able to go back as if nothing happened..but when kids r involved i think a woman stops thinking from a wife's/woman's point of view n thinks from the side of a mother..it gives a whole new perspective..
u might never forgive the infidelity in ur heart but carry on for the sake of the kids..cz a mother really can do that.
so Jayaji probably did it cz it was after both her kids were born...

well Mr Bachchan did have serious affairs with Rekha n Parveen babi before...but tats their personal matter... My personal opinion- i don't feel bad for Rekha, she dug her own grave, at tat time Jayaji was her best friend, n she used to recommend Rekha's name to alot of directors, Rekha broke her trust...Jaya refused to leave Amitji b'coz she cared for her kids n their future...n it seems Amitji's parents intervened to get the issue sorted...

Silsila was loosely based on the trio....
