Kareena Kapoor has lapped a meaty role in a movie that aims to highlight the contribution of Indians to the West.
The distance between Bollywood and Hollywood is receding gradually. Sushmita Sen is working in an American-Indian film 'Karma Confessions and Holy'. Aishwarya Rai has already become a known name in the US. And now, it is Kareena's turn to act in a film that marks the coming together of artists from the two big filmmaking industries of the world.
Kareena will star opposite Jared Leto (the star of films like 'Alexander' and 'The Fight Club') in a movie titled 'Gandhi Park'.
As learnt, the film will be directed by Kolata Tom George, a Kerala-based producer who has lived in New York for 10 years. George has produced a few Malayalam films. Akale, which was produced by him, won a lot of critical acclaim.
George describes 'Gandhi Park' as "every Indian's film". The movie, he says, will highlight the immense contribution made by Indians in western countries, particularly the US.
Besides Kareena, the movie would star Naseeruddin Shah , Shernaz Patel and south Indian star Madhavan .
In the film, Kareena plays a pharmacist and violinist in love with an American guy (played by Jared Leto). Naseer plays her father who works as a New York transit system official. Shernaz Patel plays her mother who is a nurse. Madhavan plays a skilled software engineer who works for Bill Gates.
'Gandhi Park' is a $9 million project to be produced by an American outfit. The well-known Hollywood screenwriter David Linter has written the movie's script.
The movie is likely to go on the floors in January next year. A fraction of the film will be shot in New Delhi and Agra.
