okay watched it..and must say i was impressed. I usually do not like such political dramas coz they tend to get a bit too "talk heavy" and verbose, which rajneeti is, but it still is engaging enough.

The basic plot and characters are derived from mahabharata, which im absolutely fascinated by. The right/wrong battle between the brothers for power and all the mind games are very interesting to watch. Although i knew wht was cuming in the story, my jaw dropped with shock during at least 2 points in the film. The film also has traces of Godfather with Ranbir playing Al Pacino's character...but still..its pretty interesting and gripping. Although there were sum WTF bollywood moments sprinkled here and there. Sample this: All the female characters in the film get pregnant after having sex just once. And ofcourse, the bloodbath in the second half which takes place without any of the deaths being investigated and no one ever being arrested..a bit far fetched.
However, in this case i feel the pluses outweigh the minuses.

Peformances:

Arjun rampal: OMG!! i never thought arjun could play an angry young man but he rocked. As the impulsive, passionate and hot blooded Bhim incarnation, he was just perfect. I still cannot decide if i like Prithvi (his character) or not, coz on one side he was sweet, luving brother and an adorable husband but on the other side he was a brutal, cold-blooded politician/murderer. His "ankhiyaan milae kabhie aankhian churaye" moment was HILAROUS and scary at the same time. LOVED arjun!! and i wish we had such a hunk of a politician!! half the votes would be from under-aged teenage fangirls.

Ranbir: Now he plays the Arjun of Mahabharat while arjun plays bhim. Cool, calm, sexy, evil and yet innocent. Ranbir was awsomeness personified. I cant even imagine how he can make me like his character despite all the things he does in the muvie. Samar is soo cold and quiet. But i still liked and rooted for him. That is the mark of a good actor. lol..and he does a Ph.D on victorian poetry or something like tht... aah..romantisism. But one thing which i didnt like was how Samar got away with all the criminal things he did...nevertheless..thts nothing to do with ranbir. He was BRILLIANT.

Nana patekar: LOVE THIS GUY!! he played the perfect Krishna in the muvie and his character is soo likable and wise. I really like Nana as an actor and it was a delight watching him play such a role. His scenes with ranbir and arjun are wonderful.

Now for the actors I didnt like.

Manoj Bajpai was to clownish/caricaturish and his character was not relatable like any others. He was playing duryodhan but he was too 70's villian type (even his gelled moustache and shiny-shirts wadrobe luked straight out of a mithun da muvie). His was the least realistic character in the muvie and i feel manoj deserved better.

ajay: As usual, he has one grumpy expression pasted on his face throughout the muvie, and tries hard to be all intense with the twitching eyebrows and crazy eyes, but i never warmed up to him. He plays mahabharat's karan in the muvie, which is one of my favourite characters. His suraj was supposed to be a good guy with misplaced loyalty - u shld feel sorry for him. But ajay didnt bring the required passion. Moreover, his confrontation with his biological mother makes for a huge WTF moment in the film with the characters suddenly talking like they are straignt out of a mythological tv serial. The "tum mere jesth putra ho, kintu main ek abhagan maa tumse kshama maangne aayi hain" blah blah...was a bit out of place in the modern context.

Katrina: expected soo much from her character and her role and her in general but was dissapointed. I thought hers would be a strong, fiery role like Draupadi in mahabharat, but it was pretty weak in terms of motivation and characterisation. Indu is someone who is used as a pawn but with her consent. I felt bad for her since all the decisions in her life were either made by her father, or ranbir with her having no say. i was a bit dissapointed with her performance aswell. but nevertheless, she was alright. nothing gr8 though.

Others

Naseeruddin Shah: was there for 5 minutes, but made an impact. Would have wanted to see more of him though.

Shruthi seth: holy cow!! i was shocked. The sweet innocent looking shruthi, who played the candy-floss Jia in Shararat was cast as a temptress!!! she did luk a tad uncomfortable with the role, but i appreciate her for trying sumthing different.

Kiran Kamalkar: Dude, om bhaiyya from Kahaani ghar ghar ki was cast as a veerappan moustached corrupt cop. He did well, especially in the hospital scene with arjun and ranbir.

Overall, a nice muvie. Lived up to my expectations. Although there were a few silly/illogical points,I was entertained for 3 hours and tht is wht i want a film to do. So, im satisfied.

Watched the movie yesterday and must say it was awesome. I decided to go for the 11.00 night show and kept wondering if i did the right thing..considering this movie to be about politics i was afraid i would probably go off to sleep! however i was wrong...the movie kept me engrossed and i was glad that i had made the right decision of watching it in the theatre.
The performances were power packed, but who really stood out was Arjun. he looked so hot, but it was his acting that was even more hot and impressive. i will not be surprised if he is going to sweep away with all the awards this year. Nana Patekar, Manoj Bajpai, Ranbir and Ajay were also equally good. Katrina has also done well but due to the large starcast it is difficult to typecast whose the main protagonist in the movie. although the movie starts revolving around ranbirs family, everyone seem to have meaty roles and no one looks wasted. Will I go to watch it again? A big YES!!!

Raajneeti Rocks The Nation

Saturday 5th June 2010 13.00 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Raajneeti has recorded by far the best opening of year by collecting nearly 10.50 crore nett on its first day. The collections are just extraordinary all over barring a few centres.

The collections are just huge in Mumbai, Delhi/UP, East Punjab, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan with South being good but lower comparatively. The Raajneeti first day is humungous as it has collected the second highest first day total but with 30% lesser shows at multiplexes than films like Kites and Housefull which were the second and third biggest first day openers respectively before Raajneeti.

The film has simply surpassed all expectations and may be on its way to being the first big smash hit of 2010 in India.
