I saw the ceremony on TV, the photocall of the jury's members, and the walking on the red carpet...And on TV - Aish looked really good...

It's a 60's western hairstyle ....And I do like her gown a lot/....And no one in Cannes found her wierd LOL....
Indian fashion standards isn't the world's.....*meditation*......
At least she doesn't wear FLASHY colors at an international event like some others...which is for western people very ugly ....
Of course - no one is forced to have the same standards as western people....
But I remember american friends of mine who laughed at Vidya Balan's outfit when receiving her FF award....because for them it was a faux pas to wear different texture/color stuck together.....She was a disaster for them - but for most IF members she was gorgeous...
It has to do with standards..yours isn't the world's...and the world's don't mean / don't have to be imposed to you....
And plz do believe me when I SAY people found her really stunning in that dress and hairstyle..I like it cause she had the elegance and the class of an arab mare...her hair looked like a proud mane....
It's called fashion..it's non conventional and creates debate...
--- To see wierder outfits - watch Jean-Paul Gaultier & John Galliano designs...
To see shocking outfits - JLO at the Grammy Awards with the Versace Dress....Milla Jovovich at Cannes to present the 5th element --
yeah there's a world beyond saris and anarkali.....
and yeah it's called fashion....no need to like it --- but just know it is fashion ..it doesn't mean to please the traditional indian in laws from Kerala or conventional bangali or punjabi families...
Our very own Marilyn MONROE --- Brigitte Bardot in France - take a dekho at her hairstyle - she 's a 60's and 70's a sex symbol (she helped Cannes to become so popular and other starlets like her did also)
She starred in "And God created woman"...hence perhaps Aish's hairstyle..the hairdresser couldn't possibly do this without thinking of BB..at least it is the reference that comes up to my mind...

You know what Lily even I didnt like the look but all the papers in UK have called Ash's look 'stunning'.

I guess people have different taste and different expectations and standards when it comes to fashion.

With a face and figure like that, she can wear a sack and still carry it off!
In anycase, the Western media and even the Indian media is going ga-ga over Ash's style statement!
Ofcourse, IF members are more discerning than all of them combined!!! 😆

I love this one. Shoes, dress and minimal accessories - she looks wonderful.
Yeah I agree the Western media loved her look some even calling her a princess and her look regal. I hated the hair but Lily's post did give me a perception of why people would like that kind of hair.

1st day:
if you look at the side pose, her hair is done up beautifully... i wanted to get something like this done once, but my hair was too short at the time, lol... the make-up is simple, not in your face... goes perfectly with the dress... she looks gorgeous... the gray is very subtle and a soothing colour... do people expect her to look like a stick..?? i don't think she is looking fat from any angle... she is not 20 years old, so obviously she can't look it... she actually looks much younger than her actual age... :)

2nd day:
very simple, nice and chic... simply stunning...

i'm glad she has not used excess accessories in either of the days... it's just perfect... :)

i don't think she needs to 'redeem' herself, if anything... she looked fabulous on the 1st day, and she looks great on the 2nd day as well... i think that some 'people' get influenced by others POV easily or maybe because within so much 'negativity', it is hard to see the 'positive'... :P

Agree with illogical - Aish looks younger than her own age....and no she hasn't the figure of a stick cause she's not 17 any longer so obviously her body will change and enfatten a bit. That's normal. It happens to every woman, especially after they produce kids.
In Aish's case, she maintains herself because she hasn't produced any yet.
She looked stunning the first day, I like the paradox of the second day : classy, simple & sober.

But Brigitte Bardot had the bone structure to pull off the coiffure in question. Ash does not. Someone bardot-esque, someone like Lara Stone or Claudia Schiffer someoen, or even someone like Angelina Jolie, someone who doesn't have a longish ovaloid face would've been able to pull it off. Besides, that was the 60's, and those hideous hairstyles aren't in vogue anymore. Bardot's squarish face and hollowed cheeks complement the hair; Ash with her conventionally pretty face - too pretty face - and sans even a whit of personal sense of style maybe because she deems she'd look good in whatever she wear (a notion she needs to be disabused of), she should stick to the basics.
She looked her best last year not on the red carpet but for some photoshoot she turned up for in a blue knee length dress.

The redeem comment for for those people who pretty much said that she failed or looked disastrous. Whih of course she didn't. But I really loved her look and I'm glad she tried out something new!

Where is Aishwarya at Cannes?

Since she doesn't do movies anymore, this is the only place where her fans can see her. Is she coming to Cannes? Madonna might give her some...
