Aces up for Aamir

Mumbai: The tradition of taash parties was probably institutionalized in the film industry by Raj Kapoor -- his do's were legendary and the entire industry would turn up to cheer the players, the party going on till Diwali day morning. The patriarch of the biggest film family after the Kapoors, Amitabh Bachchan, held parties for a while but discontinued it for unknown reasons.

Bollywood's tradition of Diwali bashes -- mostly taash parties -- is still being kept alive.

This year though, it's the unlikeliest candidate - Aamir Khan - who is throwing the biggest party, and it's at his Pali Hill residence tonight. Initiated by wife Kiran, the guest list for the bash includes Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra,Rajkumar Hirani, Kareena Kapoor and of course, Aamir's family including sister Nuzhat and his nephew Imran Khan.

It is not clear if Shah Rukh Khan has been invited for the party. Even though not intended to be a taash party, it might end up being one as some of the invitees are known for their fondness for teen patti. Aamir's Fanaa co-star Kajol will not be a part of the celebrations -- she is reported to be holding her own at her Juhu residence with husband Ajay Devgan. Close friends, Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra and Aditya Chopra are expected to be a part of it.

The veterans who have kept the flag of taash parties flying is led by the forever-young group of friends: Jeetendra, Rakesh Roshan, Prem Chopra and Rishi Kapoor. "We do it every year, so it's a kind of get-together for us," says Jeetendra.

Akshay Kumar holds a Diwali party religiously every year if he is in town. This time too he is expected to host one, but tomorrow night, as he will be shooting in Lonavala at the Bigg Boss house. Ektaa Kapoor will be hosting a really small one this time, inviting only close friends. Ditto Lara Dutta. Shilpa Shetty and beau Raj Kundra are planning to host a Diwali party tomorrow night at Shilpa's new bungalow.

A cracker of a card party

Aamir Khan to host his first Diwali party, with an A-list guest roster

Aamir Khan is set to host his first card party at his Bandra residence tonight and all those close to him will be invited to the party. This is one of the rare Aamir Khan parties at his home.

A source close to Aamir said, "Aamir is a very shy person and it is very rare for him to host parties. This is the first time he has decided that he will have a Diwali party. The entire house has been lit-up keeping the festive mood in mind. It is going to be a traditional affair and he will serve home-cooked food. Kiran has cut short her vacation and is at home to supervise the arrangements. Even her family has flown down from Bangalore to celebrate Diwali at the Khan residence. Aamir is pretty excited and has called his friends to the party."

The guest list includes stars and friends, who will make the most of the festive occasion. The source further said, "Salman Khan and Saif-Kareena will be there with Rani Mukerji and the entire cast and crew of 3 Idiots. Kunal Kapoor, Rakeysh Mehra and Amin Haji, a close friend of Aamir, are also going to be there as are Madhavan and Sharman Joshi with their wives. Raju Hirani with wife Manjeet and Mehra with wife Bharti will be the other two couples."

Aamir confirmed that he will host the party and said, "Yes, Kiran and I are celebrating Diwali with a small gathering at home."
