About Aamir and Katrina, Screen writes:
ACE PERFORMER
If last year Aamir Khan won the maximum votes as the actor who best represented the changing face of Bollywood, in this year's Screen C-Fore survey, he has once again topped with maximum votes as the most paisa-vasool star (male) for the expensive multiplex tickets.Given the actor's penchant for selecting the right scripts, this verdict is hardly surprising.
He is also an actor who is immensely involved with his projects, ensuring a perfect balance between the commercial aspects and an innovative idea making most of his recent films highly successful at the box-office.
What draws audiences to Aamir's films is not just fresh storylines but also the manner in which he portrays his characters. He broke new ground in the action-packed Ghajini blending the new-fangled short-term memory loss concept in a Tamil remake and the film turned out to be the highest-grossing film last year.
The sensitive Taare Zameen Par , directed by him got an excellent response from the critics and audience alike, and he was particularly appreciated for his directorial abilities. Aamir's home production, the breezy Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na which was one of the big hits of 2008, showed that he is a discerning producer as well. A complete package, indeed .
SWEET SUCCESS
Katrina Kaif, dismissed as a pretty face has proved her detractors wrong - and how! This year, for the second time in a row, she has topped Screen C-Fore Survey—as the most paisa-vasool female star (whose performance is bang for the buck in relation to the expensive multiplex tickets). Her popularity stems from the fact that she has consistently been a part of successful films, but with New York, a film about terrorism, people are beginning to wonder if she can also deliver a mean performance. Here's Kaif's take on multiplex-generated success.
"When I was promoting New York I said so many times that I had the time of my life on this film because the subject was true-to-life and the characters inherently us.These are the films you will remember in years to come as opposed to commercial films where you get to dance and look pretty.Realistic films allow you to fit more of you in them. I will be more experimental - 100 per cent - but I will continue doing every kind of cinema. I firmly believe in touching base with audiences of all kinds. Like the forthcoming Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani is a wacky laugh-riot that has a huge appeal for the 18-19 year old fan base, but Rajneeti is really an intense film. You and I will be able to relate to the humane emotions in it - it will touch your heart.
For me to jump from one genre to another, that too with such fantastic directors, is the most exciting part. Many actors came into the industry, perfect and polished and ready to go, but my learning process happened through my films. Compared to my first film I am obviously more comfortable now. I have understood how to use my personality to enhance the character given to me. That is something I have learnt from my directors. To find films that will show different aspects of my talent - like Rajneeti and Ajab Prem ...,two films poles apart will be accepted for those characters - if I get audience approval for them it will be my biggest dream come true. It becomes an obsession to be on the sets and be a part of a good film. If I get a good script I am ecstatic - that's the kind of love I now have for my work. I didn't have that earlier."
