Prateik Babbar Washed Clothes For Five Hours For 'Dhobi Ghat'
Prateik Babbar, who essayed the role of 'Amit' in Aamir Khan Production's film, 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na', is all set to rock the screen again with Kiran Rao's 'Dhobi Ghat'. The actor claimed that in order to prepare for his role, he used to visit dhobi ghats to learn how to wash clothes.
Talking about his role in the flick, 'Dhobi Ghat', Prateik said, "I play the dhobi who washes clothes for all these characters, including Aamir Khan. He's my saab. I went to real dhobi ghats and washed clothes for five hours every day for a week. It was quite a unique experience. Now I've become an expert at the job. I can't say I enjoy doing it, but if I've no one to do my washing, I won't sit and cry."
The actor also discussed about the lifestyle of washer men. "Do you know these guys wake up at 3am? And the first thing they do is swig alcohol. They are drunk the whole time while they wash. That's all they do. Wash clothes and drink."
Prateik had all the appreciations for Aamir Khan and claimed that he helped him in preparation for the role. "He helped me with my scenes. But most importantly he made me do voice exercises. He made me clench my teeth and read out the whole script to myself. And he made me yell at the top of my voice. All this helped me with the pronunciation and rolling of the tongue", he said.
The actor maintained that he chose 'Dhobi Ghat' just because of Aamir Khan. Prateik Babbar said, "I've to admit it was because of Aamir. When I went to the audition they told me AK would be playing a role as well. That did it. I was on. No questions asked. I was itching to tell everyone about him. But I was told not to open my mouth. Honestly, Aamir is of a different caliber".
