Lame dialogue in Bollywood romcoms, dramedies etc

I'm not a big fan of Romcoms (Romantic comedies) or dramdedies (drama+comedy). One of the main reasons being lame dialogue.

Watched Love Aaj Kal, and couldn't help but be disappointed that these supposedly good movies have such lame dialogue. When that chick was chatting Saif up during the break-up party, I was literally cringing. I mean, this is Imtiaz Ali, and he's supposed to be one of the most talented directors out there. Yet the dialogue is so frigging lame and contrived that it'll only be spoken in Bollywod movies - or by those who're boneheaded enough to memorise these lines and use it in quotidian speech. 🤢 Worse is the dialogue delivery. It was so goshdarned predictable and generic that I would know even before the lines would be spoken as to how they would be spoken and what sort of reaction it would elicit.
Think of all Bollywoodmovies that try to be funny in the first half and get serious in the second half - Hum Tum, Love Aaj Kal, Bachna Ae Haseeno etc. Baring maybe Dil Chahta Hai which was plausible in parts, all other fils have the crappiest dialogue spoken. For sure people in India don't talk like that. Romcoms work solely and solely because of good, funny dialogue and cracking chemistry between the main characters. Which is as often as not missing in Bollywod movies. Depika Padukone can't act - four movies and she's yet to display her acting chops, and Saif needs a good - no, a brilliant director like Vishal Bharadwaj and an offbeat role like Langda Tyagi to excel. He's played this urban, cool dude more number of times than I care to remember, and he certainly does not reinvent himself or bring anything new to the table - or the screen, as the case may be. Compounding their ineptitude is the cheesy dialogue they're been asked to mouth.
Maybe it's just me, idk, but this movie has turned me off these 'breezy' flicks for good. Unless vouched for by someone whose judgement I can trust, I don't think I can watch another of these type of fics.
*rant over*. What d'you guys think?

How did I miss this?! Anywhoo...me agrees! LAK needs to be handed the most lamest dialogue of the year award if such a thing exists. The dialogs were neither cute nor funny.

Sure bollywood has gotten out of the, "mein tumhari bacche ki maa banne waali hoon", "kaha moo kaala karke aayi karamjali" mode....but when will this, "mein pile on nahi karna chaati", "tum bohot hot lag rahi ho" phase end????? 🤪

Oh, don't get me started on the LAK dialogues 🤪
And I agree, a lot of Bollywood Romcom flicks have the most awful dialogues. So lame, it makes you wanna cringe or hide your face in your hands!! A lot of the lines are simply recycled and used again....and again...and again...😳

I definitely agree, these dialogues are just too much these days. They try to pass it off as "cool", "hip", and "Western", when it is none of those. I have yet to meet a person in the US or Canada that has ever said any of those dialogues.
I especially had a problem with the LAK dialogues, I mean really, only six-year olds would laugh at "mango man" and "pratigya". Also, these corny dialogues aren't even delivered well. I think maybe if they used these dialogues with obvious and intentional sarcasm then it may be funny, but it looked like these people were actually believing what came out of their mouths (if that makes any sense, I don't think I articulated that very well).
It's upsetting that there are no good "breezy" movies these days, that are a mix of everything with witty and actually humorous dialogues. Movies these days just feel so fake to me. Even ones that try to be real seem fake.
This was a nice post though joie de vivre.

What is Pratigya? It just means promise. What's funny about it? Just curious.

That's what I wanted to know too. When I was watching the movie I was dumbfounded as to how in the movie Saif's twenty-something character found that word funny.

i hate all these wannabe "cool" desi movies... where the men dress like a male mannequin at an urban clothing store.. ya know lime green polos and really ugly weird jeans etc... srsly who even dresses like that in real life (oh wait bollywood male celebs do)? that too characters who look like they're in their 30's or 40's..and then they talk about how scared they are of commitment.. and mouth some horrible "Hinglish" dialogues.. *CRINGE*

in Love aaj Kal, it was so effin weird how Saif's character starts ridiculing Rishi Kapoor's character when he says how him and Harleen didn't even talk for ages or touched each other before marriage.. WTF? WTF???

even a non desi person with any general knowledge of the world has heard about arranged marriages and that in a lot of countries around the world, people don't have sexual relations before they get married.. its like was Saif's character mentally challenged to not even have any basic knowledge on other cultures? even if he hadn't heard of that, you don't just crack up like an effin weirdo...you just think that "hey it must be how it is in that part of the world"..

i don't think moviemakers in India should attempt to write a character in their movies who aren't Indian born because they always end up looking like caricatures with their fob accent mouthing really lame "cool" dialogues

also i find it funny how all these "men" can get new ladies every week in the movies with no personality, no money, no looks, no style etc... hahaha very funny...
