Bollywood is full of great surprises and normalcy. While song, dance, fight and romance make up the majority of Bollywood films, every so often, Bollywood fans are treated to a few unusual occurrences that leave them speechless. However, for the most part, we are more than happy with the clichs too. In fact, it is that very inanity that makes Hindi cinema what it is. Secretly, fans all over the world fantasize of instances that…happen only in Bollywood. To Hindi cinema's credit, over time, they have managed to create a vast list of "Only in Bollywood" moments. Take a look as BollySpice covers the Top 20 Only in Bollywood sequences which are now monumental.

Only in Bollywood would a fianc give away the bride happily at the altar to the one she really loves

Sacrifice is an integral emotion in Hindi cinema mostly because it is one that attacks the Indian audience. And when it comes to sacrificial love, then Bollywood knows exactly how it's done. Audiences cried buckets when Salman Khan left Kajol just before the pheras realizing she was in love with Shah Rukh in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Only in Bollywood would such an instance occur.

Only in Bollywood would an emperor battle an elephant

You remember hunky Hrithik Roshan battling out with the haathi in Jodha Akbar. While the whole world ogled at the powerful sight, the scene became iconic—one that has never been tackled by any other director in Bollywood.

Only in Bollywood would 300 extras emerge out of nowhere to dance with the main characters

It has happened too many times in Bollywood. And while we sometimes find ourselves humored at the sight, more than often we love the idea of extras prancing around the central characters. Our personal favorite was 'Woh Ladki Hai Kahan' from Dil Chahta Hai. The mere sight of an entire cinema hall dancing as Saif Ali Khan and Sonali Kulkarni along with Farah Khan's unique choreography was one that is still appreciated today.

Only in Bollywood would potential lovers unknowingly pass each other before they fall in love

It's happened more than once in Hindi cinema. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol whizzed by each other in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge before they later fell in love; as did Fardeen Khan and Kareena Kapoor in Khushi, Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan in Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Ayesha Takia and Abhay Deol in Socha Na Tha. Later of course, the couples fall in love after the usual bicker and banter making this particular scene a necessity in Bollywood love stories.

Only in Bollywood would costume changes occur in a single song

Costume changes are equally as integral as any others of the "Only in Bollywood" instances. In the past, Aishwarya Rai took an iconic route when in Jeans where she constantly changed her clothes as she wondered around the Seven Wonders of the World in Ajooba. More recently, Aamir Khan pulled a great costume one, when he changed his clothes and look for several personalities in the popular 'Behka' in Ghajini.

Only in Bollywood would a character put up their pinky finger when they need to "go"

Salman Khan has done it more than once—showing audiences the pinky when he really had to "go." In Andaz Apna Apna, his hilarious antics included a couple of pinky-pointing scenes. Once again, he did the same in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam after being frozen in the statue position for hours by Aishwarya Rai.

Only in Bollywood would the main actors suddenly appear in the snow on a mountain in Switzerland wearing inappropriate outfits for the cold

Immediately, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit come to mind in the hit film Pukar. The duo were planted on the top of a freezing mountain where Madhuri was dressed in a thin-chiffon sari. If that wasn't enough assurance, Kajol paraded around the icy slopes in Switzerland in a short-sleeveless dress with SRK in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. We can almost guarantee such would not be the case in real-life.

Only in Bollywood would running around trees and singing in the rain occur

There are countless examples of tree-running and rain-singing in Hindi movies. The eighties was known for this very idea which eventually became a phenomena. Only in Bollywood could make good use of the rain and greenery around it making it a fundamental necessity in Hindi movies.

Only in Bollywood will a couple conveniently find a cozy hut on a stormy night

Stormy nights + a cozy hut = a lead up to a song for sure! The equation is one that has been used so many times but never fails to appear over used. DDLJ made use of a hut as a prelude to 'Zara Sa Jhoom' as did 'Hum Ho Gaye Aap Ke', as Fardeen Khan and Reema Sen are forced to abandon their trip back home after a "sudden" storm.

Only in Bollywood would the wind blow when the heroine appears

With a gush of wind, the heroine's hair will fly and the hero will realize "She is the one." Incidentally, the wind also tends to be around in tragic moments—the hero is caught romancing another girl, and a whiff of wind followed by a storm is definitely next on the list. And lastly, who can forget the mighty wind that will blow when the protagonist is upset and vents to God on the mandir steps.

Only in Bollywood will the hero make a grand entrance: jumping in from the ceiling

Entrances in Bollywood are dynamic and distinctive. If the heroine gets an airy entrance, the hero generally receives a scary-dare devil one filled with danger. Our action heroes know this only too well. Akshay "Khiladi" Kumar jumped out of a glass ceiling in Mohra, which is perhaps the most classic of ways and then Ajay Devgan stood on two bikes when he debuted in Phool Aur Kaante.

Only in Bollywood will the hero get hit with 50 bullets but the villain gets one and dies

Bullets are a commodity in Hindi films, and they are used as much as ketchup is used for fake blood. In the most intense and dangerous of scenes, an actor will walk head-on towards the villain who will shoot bullet after bullet. But, fall, he will not. Eventually, after a struggle, the actor will gain access to a weapon, and bang-bang the villain is dead. Examples, there are numerous, but this situation is a Bollywood requirement.

Only in Bollywood would the bride's sister take the brides place at the mandap

As mentioned before, sacrifice is a favorite emotion in Bollywood. In more than one instance, the bride's sister has taken her place at the shaadi creating a sacrificial moment that would probably not happen in reality. Juhi Chawla did just that in the nineties hit Aaina where she took sister Amrita Singh's place at the mandap only to marry Jackie Shroff. In this case, it worked to her advantage as she married the man she was in love with anyway.

Only in Bollywood would the actress drink a poison to prove her love to the hero
Not only do heroines need to drink poison but they have also come close nearly jumping cliffs only to prove that they do indeed love their respective heroes. Rani nearly fell off a high mountain before Bobby Deol told her to stop as did Madhuri Dixit before Anil Kapoor finally believed she was genuine.

Only in Bollywood would a letter or photograph fall into the father's hands right before the climax

The wind comes into use again here when a picture of SRK and Kajol romancing falls into the hands of Amrish Puri in DDLJ leading up to a dramatic climax. White pup Tuffy helps lovers Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan reunite in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun as the wedding climax was nearing. Bollywood certainly has fabulous ways to cook up interesting leads to the pinnacle of a movie.

Only in Bollywood would a series of random slaps occur

Slap, slap and slap again. In Ugly Aur Pagli, the unique selling point of the film was actually a whole 99 slaps! Of course, the film went on to be a dud at the box office, but the slaps were definitely enjoyed. Random slaps have become a usual quotient in Hindi cinema.

Only in Bollywood will it rain and lightning strike when a heartbreak happens

With a strike of lightning and some loud thunder, a heart breaks. Bollywood has found the most dramatic way to metaphorically demonstrate heartbreak. In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, a perfectly sunny day becomes monsoon season when Kajol realizes SRK is not in love with her but Rani Mukherjee instead.

Only in Bollywood do the animals have a clear understanding of the ongoing situations

Pets in Bollywood are maha-smart and filled with Indian sentiments. They know exactly what is going on and in a heartbeat help to mend the situation. The white kabootar in Maine Pyar Kiya helped to clear a tiff between the lovers which epitomized the pigeon and the role of animals in Bollywood.

Only in Bollywood does the protagonist cry in front of God only for a miracle to happen

God listens to its disciples and Bollywood proves just that. In many a film, the protagonist, in their weakest moment, cries and breaks down in front of a statue. After much antagonizing and painful speech, their prayers are heard. Bollywood dialogue writers certainly know how to ensure God grants your wishes.

Only in Bollywood do you have to wait to very end for a happy ending

Yes, only in Bollywood do you have to wait until the very end for a blissful and jovial ending. The whole film may be filled with great pain, anguish and distress but the ending is almost guaranteed to make you smile and walk home feeling, paisa vasool. But, but, but, there are exceptions…Hum Saath Saath Hain was filled with happy moments followed by approximately 30 minutes of sadness and then of course, in true Rajshri style, smiling faces. But hey, that would happen Only In Bollywood.
