hey there...
last nite on sony max I saw this movie called Lamhe (1991) by Yash chopra *ing Anil Kapoor, sridevi, Waheeda Reheman and Anupam kher. I was watching the movie for the first time and was shocked to see that such a bold story was told soo beautifully way bak in 1991. It is apparently regarded as one of Yash chopra's Finest works and is also the director's personal favourite. However, the film evidently didnt do well in india which is sad because it was such a wonderful film. And many people didnt watch the movie coz it wasn't such a huge success like DDLJ or DTPH. I was just wondering what are the views of the people who did watch the film...did you like it?

I loved the movie and one of my fav movies. I think movie was released too soon. If lamhe was released now, it would had been Blockbuster. Everyone acted so beautifully. From Waheeda to Sridevi, Anil to Anupam kher. From music to direction. 👍🏼

It was a success in UK, not India. Incidentally, this movie, along with Silsila which failed are Yash Chopra's favourite movies or so he has said in a couple of interviews.
I love the movie. The mature topic was thankfully handled well - unlike the wavering messages which Silsila sent, Lamhe was an unconventional movie with a bold, strong message. Furthermore, the songs were mesmerizing. Sridevi, in her role as the mother and daughter, was absolutely flawless. Her roles in regional cinema aside, this has to be her best performance in Hindi cinema. She was truly spectacular. Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Waheeda Rehman too gave wonderful performances but I think Sridevi stole the show completely.
P.S. It was especially wonderful to see Waheeda ji dancing to "Aaj phir jeene ki tamana hai" from her movie Guide.

I was 12 when I watched the movie and simply loved it, for the longest time I assummed the Anil w/o the moustache was his brother Sanjay but of course that was false lol they look so alike!
The movie was excellent Sridevi and Anil were simply superb; I personally liked Anil's acting and yes how can you forget Waheeda ji as the dayijaan and Anupam Kher as Anil's friend.
The music is something I enjoy even today, infact I used to sing the song "gudiya rani bitiya rani" to my neice when she was younger and ofcourse "Choodiyan kahank gayi" and "Meri Bindiya" are songs young girls dance to even today.
I have to agree that this is definitely Yash ji's finest works but unfortunately the narrow minded generation of India at the time shunned the idea of an older man marrying such a young girl.

It's a good film that strangely was a disaster in india but was the first indian film to do well on the international box office. I think the subject was maybe too bold for audiences back then - but i belive that it is now has a huge cult following which outshines its indian box office results.

One thing that really surprised me was that the audience in India weren't open to such a concept back then....but i think all of raj kapoor's movies had bold themes aswell (A student loving a teacher in Mera naam joker) which were accepted by the audience....strangely...lamhe wasn't appreciated...

But it does have a cult following today....i am yet to come across a person who has seen the movie but didnt like it.

^ Mera Naam Joker flopped. It was only afterwards that it garnered critical praise, much in the same way that Lamhe did.

I agree. Both Lamhe and Mera Naam Joker flopped but now they are both cult classics. I love both. Lamhe was a good movie sometimes I can't believe it was Yash Chopra's flick!
