Mumbai: Actress Vidya Balan has come forward to support Project Nanhi Kali -- an initiative launched in 1996 by KC Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) which has an objective of providing primary education to the underprivileged girl child in India.
She says that she has been thoroughly inspired by the organisation's effort to provide education for 48,000 girl children. She is also participating in the Mumbai marathon as a sign of solidarity post the 26/11 terror attacks in the financial hub.
"Education is like a basic necessity like food, water, shelter and clothing for people. Education widens the horizon, gives you the freedom to make informed choices. I understand that it is not possible that everyone can become a graduate but basic education is a must for all." She adds, "I was aware of Nanhi Kali's work and I genuinely believe in what they are doing.
]This year I'm running the marathon too. I like being a part of things I believe in. I haven't participated in the marathon ever, but I'm attempting the Dream Run. I don't know whether it will turn out to be a dream walk but I want to participate."
