'I'd pick Aamir over Salman!'

A random internet search for the word Asin returns roughly 1,32,000,000 results. Compare this to Bollywood's reigning queen Kareena Kapoor, who notches up a modest 2,740,000 results. That's the star power of this Kollywood beauty who is all set to make her grand Hindi debut opposite Aamir Khan in Ghajini. In person this multi-award winning sensation comes across as any other confident, charming, urban girl, devoid of any starry tantrums. It's also unusual for a celeb to give you his/her business card in order to be accessible to the media. That's not all, Asin even hosts her own official website. We talked to Asin about working with some of Indian cinema's biggest names and why Ghajini is equally special even the second time around...

So Asin, you are doing a role that you have already played before. Did you approach it like a fresh role?

No, actually in the case everything is same except for the language and setting. It was easier for me because I was doing it for the second time.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->But considering you were with Aamir Khan, who is known to be a perfectionist and expects everyone to match up to his standards, didn't you feel the need to put in some extra effort? <!--[endif]-->

Obviously, he has high standards. But that doesn't mean he is going to be monitoring every step of the making. That's a very wrong impression people have. In fact, I had a good time working with Aamir. He is so focused. And he doesn't interfere in others' matters. So Aamir's presence didn't add any pressure to how I approached my character.

Wouldn't you have preferred to debut with an original Hindi project and perhaps with a longer role?

I think Ghajini is the perfect debut for me. Aamir Khan, AR Rahman, Murugadoss, Ravi K Chandran – The film's got a dream team. And if you have seen the original you will understand why it is a great film to be part of.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> No, I am not someone who approaches a role with any expectations. I just hope I can put my best in the film and then just move one.

Yes, I am quite comfortable with Hindi. And the film has been shot in sync sound so there was no need for dubbing.

Now, the trend of remaking South Indian films has met with mixed results. Yet Bollywood continues to remake movies like Ghajini and Pokiri. What is it so special about these films?

Well, I think these are hugely successful films. So it's nice to showcase it to a larger audience. Even they can get entertained.
