Bollywood reacts to Mumbai terror

Mumbai may be limping back to normalcy after the recent terror attack but people from all walks of life are still seething. There is anger at politicians for sleeping on their jobs, and anger at the magnitude of the attack. But there is also praise and gratitute among Mumbaikars for those who have risked their lives to fight for our safety -- The National Security Guard, the army, the police and the fire-fighters

Many have expressed themselves through slogans and peace marches across the city.

Film personalities have also been quite vocal about their thoughts through blogs and mails. We take a look at what some of them say.

Ajay Devgan, Kajol

Ajay Devgan and Kajol sent out a mail saluting the armed forces for their bravery in the need of the hour.

'We pay our tributes to the able officers, who have laid down their lives so that we can sit in our homes safe today,' they write. 'This is their job and they have done it wonderfully, but have we done ours? We pay our tributes to them till the crisis are over and the next working day, is exactly that, a working day. We forget all about them till next situation comes up. Our tributes last till the crisis last.'

Aamir Khan

'

Terrorists are not Hindu or Muslim or Christian'

Aamir Khan

Aamir applauded the bravery of the Mumbai police as well, in his blog.

'My heartfelt condolences to the family of the brave officers of the Mumbai Police, who lost their lives leading from the front to take on these terrorists. Especially Hemant Karkare of the ATS, who in the recent past was being targeted by various political parties for the work that he was doing,' he wrote.

'When will these politicians realise and admit that terrorists have no religion? Terrorists are not Hindu or Muslim or Christian. They are not people of religion or God. They are people, who have gone totally sick in their head and have to be dealt with in that manner. Hemant Karkare is an example of a brave officer, who gave his life in the line of duty,' he continued.

Even as he praised the police force, Aamir, like every other Mumbaikar, seemed upset at the politicians, who seemed to use the tragedy to their benefit.

'I dread to think of how various political parties are now going to try and use this tragedy to further their political careers,' he wrote. 'At least now they should learn to not divide people and instead become responsible leaders.

Karan Johar

I felt an undeniable pride towards journalists'

Karan Johar

Unlike many, who got tired of the extensive media coverage the attack got, Karan Johar appreciated it in his blog.

'People criticised the media coverage, but how about acknowledging the tremendous amount of bravery that went into tirelessly reporting the horror and carnage?' he wrote. 'A load of what was showing up on my TV was perhaps misinformation, but for the most part, I felt an undeniable pride towards the journalists, who risked their lives to report some version of the truth. They had educated opinions and I wondered what would happen if certain members of the media were put in parliament. Doesn't sound like such a bad idea right now, does it?'

Besides his own thoughts, Karan also incorporated the thoughts of a friend called Niranjan. 'My friend Niranajan, a gifted writer, put across with remarkable simplicity that, 'The only people who did anything to mention over the past 3 days were the NSG who quietly came in, stoically risked their lives, killed our enemies, walked out onto the debris filled streets, boarded red BEST buses and went home.''

Amitabh Bachchan

I am not going to leave my country in this troubled hour'

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan has been blogging regularly ever since terror struck Mumbai on November 26.

While he applauded the NSG soldiers for their contribution in wiping terror away, he claimed that he would not join light a candle to show solidarity.

'This is no time to demonstrate gesture. This is the time for me to listen to a leader that shall strongly assure me of what needs to be done and will do it! This is the time for each citizen of this country to act and behave in a dictated disciplined profile. This is the time for those that lead, to educate us all in a common curriculum bearing a common code of conduct. A code that shall bind us all as one collective strength. If the invader has been psychologically brain washed into believing that what he is doing to us is ordained through divine intervention, then let him face 1.2 billion brains that have been ordained in unison to 'teach' him how horribly wrong he is,' Bachchan explained.

And in his own way, he demonstrated his own solidarity towards the nation. 'I was to be in Hong Kong at the invitation of ex-President Bill Clinton to partake in his Clinton Global Initiative and speak on a topic that would elevate the conditions of our universe. I cancelled. I am not going to leave my country in this troubled hour to travel to a foreign land to lend cause to a foreign initiative, patronised and guided by a foreigner, for his benefit! I need to see initiative here in my country.'

Bachchan has also refused to be a part of the Life Earth concert, that was soon cancelled.

'I have also cancelled my participation in Live Earth, the Al Gore initiative which I was to participate in on the 6th and 7th of December. I am not going to sing and dance at a time when my country and city bleeds, even though the funds collected were for charity. They can keep their initiative to themselves,' he wrote.

Priyanshu Chatterjee

'

We move forward without giving this incident of terrorism a religious colour'

Priyanshu Chatterjee

Priyanshu Chatterjee hopes that the recent terror attacks will not take on communal shades.

'I am proud of my country as an Indian and wish that we let this moment pass and move forward without giving this incident of terrorism a religious colour. Orange and green are colours on our national flag and we should salute them both. We take great pride in our unity and that is one of our prime strengths so let us not allow any force to weaken us on that front.

'Another thing we must do is let the normalcy in our lives get restored as soon as possible. For those of us who have lost our loved ones, the loss is irreplaceable.'
